Hi folks,
I have got a new soundcard and 7.1 speakers. The problem is most of the movies I posses is only 5.1 ac3/dts.
Then how could I upmix them for perfect 7.1 in real time? Is there an extended ac3 filter capable of this ?
Thanks in advance. :)

But using Pro Logic IIx on discrete 5.1 sources would be a step backwards. See the FAQ on the Dolby web site for Dolby Pro Logic IIx
[i]19. Are the Surrounds and Backs stereo channels?
Yes, but they are not discrete. The Surround and Back channels are each derived from Dolby Pro Logic IIx logic decoding, so the separation varies in response to the input signal.
Dolby makes a general statement that IIx is designed for native stereo and 5.1 sources, but they don't clearly state whether IIx maintains the discrete separation inherent to a true 5.1 mix.

btw, I found one thing, the speaker has an option to upmix 5.1 -> 7.1. but I don't know will that work.

There is no perfect way to upmix a 5.1 to 7.1 using a program, just as upmixing a stereo track using prologic IIx doesn't give you a perfect 5.1 mix either.

Probably about the same way that prologic IIx would.

Could you please explain how that would be a step backwards?
