Getting back to DMA mode in Windows 2000/XP

My workstation HDD is failling and I get DMA errors. After 6 errors, windows goes in PIO mode and force it. The only way to get DMA back is by using this registry hack:

But, better change the hard disk :D

You might need the hotfix, and for that you need to contact M$. Here's an alternative:

My second Seagate IDE drive is going bad... same brand, same problem. Odd thing is that the drive will work #1 on another computer. I'm stuck to buy a WDC.... :(

Maybe the cable is going bad. I had that happen in a machine a couple years back.

it's not always the hardware that is bad. Windows interprets any error as hardware. The reset fix is good to use on cd/dvd drives if you experiment with different brands of disks.

WDC works #1 on the same cable, same plug. Maybe I'll try to upgrade my BIOS...

My WS crash now when I load "too much", like starting Skype. I got a new WDC 80GB. I hope this will fix the damn machine. Cya later on XP64 :D
