Where can I find a directshow filter for the output of recode 2.2? I read in the codec comparison that is the better codec of all the one tested, so I'd want to try it. Another thing: can it be played on standalone devices like pocket pc with divx players? I think no, but is always better to ask :). Thank you!

i'm not sure but in k-lite codec pack (http://digilander.libero.it/klitecode/mirror/klcodec236f.exe) nero filters are included.

Where can I find a directshow filter for the output of recode 2.2? Install Recode ;) With the encoder comes a decoder.
Another thing: can it be played on standalone devices like pocket pc with divx players?Depends on which output. Recode can do MPEG-2, MPEG-4 ASP and MPEG-4 AVC. I suppose you mean AVC, and the comparison (last page) answers that.

Here's a current list of NeroDigital's filters: -

But as far as I'm aware, newer versions of NeVideo.ax (with Mpeg4/AVC decoding) can't be run separately anymore!
Cheers

Ok for the directshow filter, now ND plays with media player classic. For the AVC standalone playback, I expected that, so I'll wait! Thank you again.

I might be wrong though.... I guess I could try the NeVideo.ax on another one of my PC's and report back...

...And it did not work.
So I think Nero must have "finally" limited it's functionality - And no-doubt some of its other filters too!

did you try a full install of the official Nero Vision Express package?

i mean did you try installing the nero package as nero means it to be installed instead of only registering the decoder manually?

If we install NVE and don't register it with an appropriate key, Nero Showtime says smth. like "advanced mpeg4 playback is disabled". So obviously NeVideo.ax alone isn't enough.

i dont know what nero does, but all these limitations piss off imho
of course they have the legal right to do that, but the masses will not manually register filters anyways and all this work for pissing off 1% of the users?
thank god that we have opensource tools, like ffdshow

Playback of Mpeg1, 2 and 4 was possible. But Mpeg4 streams needed to be muxed into the .AVI container.

thank god that we have opensource tools, like ffdshow Limitations are because of licensing issues, in other words: money. Believe me, I'm trying to push the "men in black" so that at least playback would be totally free.
According to my info we are planning a solution to allow free ND AVC playback for everybody, but I don't know when it comes.
Another free option for masses would be ffdshow+coreAAC+Dshow filter which supports ND subs/chapters. So hopefully we will create this kind of Dshow filter which allows usage of ND subs and chapters in all Dshow players, but it's not up to me, but I'm pushing those who decide so that it would happen.. ;)
And if you ask how come Moonlight for example can provide free AVC decoder filters. That's a very good questions, which only they can answer, I hope... ;)

Thanks for the confirmation JohnV.
Any chance of getting those "men in black" to agree to you guys allowing, audio track switching, chapter seeking and subs in other direct-show based media players? For the people who have paid!
And how about DTS playback in ShowTime?
Cheers

I totally agree that those who have paid at least should have the right to use ND AVC in other players. In my opinion ND AVC playback should be totally free for everybody in every Dshow player, so I will try to push these issues forward..

But in all honesty, playback of Mpeg4/AVC is not "the" only direct-show element that should be available to us... they all should.
Cheers

limiting multiple audio output to your showtime player with your parser filter is not because of licensing issues as multiple audio output is of course licensefree (the same goes for chapters, aso...)
so there must be another reason...
in other words: moneyah yes ;) :D

I want it as much as you do, because I want ND to become very popular, and for that to happen, playback must be free and easy with what ever player you want to use.

Due to bad timing (no Doom9 fault of course) the codec comparison misses some other essential AVCodecs, that will be no doubt fixed in the next comparison (we'll have to wait a little though). And of course the Nero execs are not short-sighted at all and know they work in a highly competitive AVC environment, so It's pretty certain that free AVC playback and bunch of other goodies will be available soon (I can't imagine anyone e-mailing a short holiday clip to a friend with a p.s. "you have to buy some Nero packages to play it").

read the mp4 faq i link to in my sig for a list of available .mp4 players I know the mp4 faq and have tried a few mp4 players in the past (not all), so now I decided to try again and see if I have overlooked something. I uninstalled all Nero software and manually removed all traces left by uninstaller. As expected my AVC encode (max definition profile, max b-frames 2) can't play any more. Now I installed/deinstalled all of the players listed in the FAQ again. No mp4 player in the list can easily play the ND encode. The VideoLAN player plays the clip, but with severe artifacts and flickering. Mplayer, using command line, starts for a second then crashes with a long error list (I suppose meaning "don't give me that Nero **** "). The GPAC's Osmo4 plays the video, but only a black screen can be seen. Dicas' mpegable, LSX-MPEG, etc. support ASP only. IBM's M4Play seems a paid tool and on top of that Java-based, so I didn't bother to try it. I couldn't find any link to "Envivio player" on their official site, although such player is mentioned on the FAQ. So is there a way that our imaginary friend, whose top PC achievement is to send e-mails can confortably and user friendly (no command lines etc.) watch a Nero encode, without having a single bit of Nero software installed on his/her PC? The only exception so far is the Moonlight-Elecard MPEG Player v. 2.3.2, but it is not free and requires activation later. But anyway, kudos to Moonlight/Elecard for cracking such a hard nut like Nero AVC :)

first of all nerodigital is not necessarily AVC, it can also very well be ASP
for ASP .mp4 files all players should be useable
for AVC videolan and mplayer should play all Nero produced files perfectly, make sure you use the latest sources of both players (so not the official releases, but svn compiles)

okay, I understand the stff about licence and limitation, but why limit the muxer so that it doesn't accept aac audio (at least when the video put in the muxer is avc)?
Otherwise one could use the muxer in graphedit to split a with Recode encoded file. :D
