When the new free Dvd 43 is loaded I can not access any files on either my cd writer or my dvdrw. It will not even recognize that there is a disk in the drive. Once DVD 43 is closed there is no further problem. This is with WinXP SP2, Sony DRU10a drive, and HL-DT-ST CDRW CDE 8481B. Any ideas will be appreciated. Thanks.

In one of my computers, DVDDecrypter also causes something like this. When it is open, a disc inserted in the drive isn't recognized, autoran, or can be accessed. It can only be ripped. DVDDecrypter has complete control of it. In another computer this is no problem. Both run Win XP. This, of course, is not a shortcoming of the DVDDecrypter.

The cause may be too obscure to be worthy of trying too much to figure out. Perhaps it's easier to live with it.

Regards.

Thanks for the reply. I found out that the problem was caused by my burner giving up the ghost. Ever since I updated to WinXp Sp2 Nero 5.5xx would lockup during the lead out of the burn necessitating a reboot. Unfortunately with time this must have done damage to my Sony drive. I have replaced it with a liteon SOHW 1673S which comes bundled with Nero Express oem which does not exhibit the lockup problem. The recognition problem is now fixed.
