guide for Arccos decrypting?

I've browsed some of the threads regarding this new protection, and thought it might be useful to have a guide for dealing with this for various backup solutions. (AVI, complete backup, or SVCD/VCD, etc.)

So far, nothing I have backed up has had this protection, and let's face it, I don't intend to buy any such protected material. I'll even take back any of this content if it isn't well-labeled as being protected.

But eventually there may be a title I can't live without which has this or other protection. So it'd be nice to be able to go to some guide to back it up rather than having to read through dozens of threads to work out the necessary steps.

the latest DVD Decrypter, AnyDVD and DVD43 should all be able to handle this on-the-fly, so I wouldn't know what to write in such a guide since the entire operation is transparent to the user.

Ok, my bad for not trying the tools, although I don't have any protected media to try them with.

All the traffic on this subject led me to believe the process was actually complex.

I would have to respectfully disagree. I do believe some guides would be of great help. The reason is that there are several different methods of backing up DVDs, and what works for one person may not be the preferred method for another. (Example: If I prefer to split a disc out to two DVD-5s, and use no compression, and also try to get as many extras as I can, the procedure can be quite different than it is for a person who wants to compress. Especially since part of this ARccOS scheme involves "unreferenced material," and part of it also involves the "extras.")

Also, so far, these new Sony ARccOS discs have proven to be quite different. Some feature the so-called "jumping boy," or the "running guy," others do not. Some have had long periods of "empty space" at the beginning of the main title which needed to be deleted. Others which reportedly have the new ARccOS scheme have not had this empty space.

Finally there are multiple procedures that one can use. One can "de-select" problem areas within DVDDecrypter. Or, one can choose not to back them up in Shrink. One can use DVDShrink to rip, if they run DVD43 in the background. Or, one can use DVDDecrypter to rip.

I could go on...

I have used search many times to try to find the answers I needed. I was never able to find the "perfect" ones that would work for me, on this forum.

The above is just my humble opinion. I would try to write a guide, but I do not fell at all qualified. Especially as I do not fully understand exactly how this new scheme works.

Congrats Bruce on your first post.

This query is specifically pertained to "unravelling" the mystery Arccos decrypting. Like Doom9 said, there is nothing to write about overcoming this new crypting.

Each user has his/her own version of perfection in backing up so there is no such thing as the perfect one. Well, there is, buy another copy:p .

I have learnt from this unbelievable forum so far in order:

Decrypter.
VOBblanker.
PGCedit. (2nd and 3rd in no order)
Recode or DVDshrink.
IMGtool/Decrypter again for burning.

(please perform search to obtain the above mentioned)

Perfect? Not bad with 1disk backup, considering I'm viewing in Hi-Def. With 2 disks, it is perfect. :p
