View Full Version : MP4 splitter for Gabest to use in MPC

All right, this'll be my last post for mp4 splitters (and possibly for MPEG-4, but don't count on that one ). I'm wondering if anyone here feels like being benign and "create" an mp4 splitter for Gabest so that he can easily incorporate it in MPC?

i am sure he will write one if he thinks he wants to write one ;)
and no, he doesnt incorporate filters not written by him into mpc

I sent him a request by email about an mp4 splitter for MPC, and he said that the fileformat was too intricate for him to understand, so he couldn't create one for MPC. Then I asked him if I could post here on Doom9 if someone would create one for him that he could incorporate, and he replied that it was okay :)

well that would than be the first one :) Probably :) But that doesn't mean he'll do it; he maybe would feel that the splitter is bad or something :) So, anyone up for it? Would be awesome if MPC could handle mp4 files without any extra splitters. That's really the only thing I miss with MPC: an mp4 splitter and MPEG-4 decoder, like libavcodec.

And again I´m dreaming of playing mp4 in MPC with Chapters (still possible) and subtitles :) . Would be great :goodpost:

I mean, this is Doom9; there are lots of skilled dudes around here.

hubert Don't you think this is a little off topic considering the topic subject?

did not known where to post it, i did search the forum.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I though that a mp4 splitter is for stream splitting, eg I cannot read the sub stream.

PS : elias, JoeBG did post "I´m dreaming of playing mp4 in MPC with Chapters (still possible) and subtitles ". I think I'm not so far away from the subject.

I´ve seen them once with a very old version of Osmo Player. But with the newer ones it is impossible for me to see them. I´m hoping for the new 3ivx splitter ans I still can´t understand why vlc player does not support the subs in mp4.

well theoretically the mp4 splitter of osmo4, videolan, realplayer should handle timed text already, but most seem to not work correctly (didnt test osmo4 recently) :D

Elias

Isn't VLC capable of that? Unlike MPC it can switch audio tracks in *.mp4 from the get-go.

This does defenitly not work for me. Osmo always crashes and does not show anything.

So I pose the question to everyone here on Doom9: do we have a skilled member that perhaps knows how to create an *.mp4 splitter for Gabest to use in MPC?

also of course you can use any dshow splitter in mpc, it doesnt have to be hardcoded

I agree with Elias in this case. We really need this hardcoded splitter in order to playback those damn .mp4 files with just installing ffdshow. It might be very handy. Using external splitters
is not handy.

for other players. a well developed direct show filter would solve all peoples problems, not just those who use mpc, which does not have the playlist support that zoomplayer does. and i do not want to get off topic, but i think any directshow filter (that is suitable) could be adopted and hardcoded in mpc if gabest felt it was worthy, but that the aim should not be to develop one specifically for mpc, but for dshow in general. so everyone could benefit from it, even those of us who use zoomplayer or another dshow based player.
just my 15 cents
dave

Trust me, Gabest would've written an *.mp4 splitter for MPC, if he only knew how. He doesn't. Gabest isn't omniscient. He's very good at this kind of stuff, but there are stuff even he doesn't know how to do.

dave Good idea. That would be cool actually. However, my intention was that it would come along with MPC, so that *.mp4 would be no problem anymore. But I don't see why not both suggestions couldn't be done :)

I don't think Gabest doesn't know how to (the guy can read specs), but more that he really doesnt care. IIRC I've heard somethings about him not really liking the format anyway.

Whats wrong with Haali's splitter anyway?
