View Full Version : One Disc/ Two Discs- better quality

I have read through this forum and found most of the answers I was looking for. However, I still have two questions:

1. Which would be better quality- burning a dvd using Nero Recode on "Main Movie Only" at 100% onto one disc OR burning that same movie onto two discs using DVDFab and Nero?

2. Is it still true that the only way to burn a dvd-9 onto a double layer disc is using DVD Decrypter ISO Read/Write? So far it has worked perfectly for me, but I was just wondering if there is any other way of burning it. Is DVD Decrypter a reliable tool for burning double layer? Are the copies exactly like the original?

hi,

1) they should be identical quality wise as long as you do not apply any compression...

2) i don't know if it is the only way, but it sure as hell is a reliable way... i do think you can burn them with nero too as long as they do not have any copyright protection... you could of course decrypt the DVD with dvddecrypter and burn it with nero, if this feels 'safer' to you...

the copies are not identical, as the encryption (and maybe also the region protection) will have been removed, but quality wise they should be the same, provided you use higher quality media...

I don't have a dual-layer burner but you can set DVD Shrink in Target DVD Size preference to DVD-9.

Here's a relevant thread. http://forum.digital-digest.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=44515&highlight=dvd9+burning

Is Nero Recode not a form of compression? You are compressing to fit on 4.7 Gb aren't you?

thanks for the replies

one more question, found this on the internet-

http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/dvd_rebuilder_tutorial.cfm

-would this be a reliable guide for double layer burning- I mean, would I see an improvement in quality or should I not waste my time and just stick with DVD Decrypter ISO read/write?

http://www.doom9.org/mpg/dvdrb.htm

why not use the corresponding doom9 guide... after all the author of dvd rebuilder is a forum moderator over here ;)

of course the afterdawn guide should be ok too...

I was actually going to- cause I don't like the "one click" method- I just needed to know if this was a good way to go about burning dvd9-- quality wise- or if I was wasting my time.

it definitely is a recommend way if you want to preserve as much quality as possible...
