View Full Version : Remux .m2v with vobedit causes stutter

Hi,

I have a dvd that’s about 20Mb to big for burning on to a dvdr. So I wanted to re-encode a part of the menu, using vobedit to demux on vobid and demuxed the vobid to an m2v. Then I re-encoded the m2v with cce. When I’d preview the re-encoded m2v everything looks like normal.

Next i remuxed the m2v with vobedit, and saved the new vobid. When I previewed this new vobid there where several stuttering while playing. Then I’d tried with some other m2v’s and they all resulted in a stuttering vob.

Is there an other method to remux the m2v back into the vobid, that won't cause that stuttering?

Thanks

Try MuxMan.

Or shrink your menu with DVDShrink. For 20MB, you should not notice the quality loss.

muxman won't open vob files so i can't remux an m2v. Also shrink gives an error, something is wrong with one of the vobs.

Hi roux :)

MuxMan should be fed with elementary streams, for all of the assets you want to remux (this means you should use as input a m2v file, demuxed from your original VOB using VobEdit or PgcDemux).

Apart this, in your case the simple demuxing-reencoding-remuxing process will fail, since you are operating on the menu domain, and not on the title domain...

Possible suggestion for your situation are:

1 - PREFERRED: as suggested by r0lZ, 20 MB on 4.7 GB are almost nothing, so using Shrink is quick and sure.

2 - Much more complex, use NuMenu4u, for properly squeezing the menu (this approach requires to build an ISO image of your full title, the reencoding with CCE or Procoder, and the re-authoring of the menu alone with Scenarist). Get a look, eventually, to the Big 3 forum for guides, comments and hints on this point...

3 - Reencode a part (or the whole) main movie with a reduced average bitrate; it may seems to be an overkilling activity, and it will take a lot of time, but if you don't want to use NuMenu4u, or simply can not use it, then it is the only alternative I see to point 1...

All the best

This is an interesting topic since I'm trying to make a guide to edit motionmenus. I'm following msc_alex guide for static menu as long as possible and that means using vobedit.

I read somewhere that Derrow wrote that the only safe thing to use with vobedit's remux is rempeg2. I would like to know if there's any way around this.

I made some tests and as long as the goplengt isn't changed the vob didn't stutter. Is the gop lenght the only requirement or was I just lucky?

Hi thanks for the reply's.
It worked using dvdrebuilder.

M7S, instead of remuxing you're m2v, it's also possible to reauthor it, demux the whole menu on vobid. Now you can also edit the subpicture if necessary.
Use MenuEdit to save you're original button layout (also saves all buttoncommands). Open the newly authored vob and import the buttonlayout.
Then you've just got to remux the vobid's back together, using vobedit 'join clips'. Last of all, do the 'ifoedit trick'; menu extra's.

hope this helps a bit.

@m7S - A guide exists for turning motion menus into full stills :) http://www.videohelp.com/guides.php?link=713

Unfortunately, while working perfectly, it is cumbersome. Perhaps the author is a clutz ;)

There are two very fast one-click approaches being developed as we speak which are in advanced stages of development.

Of course, if you want full motion but just an edited version (e.g shorter), this is much more complex. I look forward to seeing your guide.

@Blutach

My plan isn't to write a guide about how to make a shorter motionmenu, vobblanker can do that, right? I want to make a guide about how to remove a button or exchange a button in a motion menu. It was SlayerDK (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=89794) that gave me the idea.

A funny coincidence: I am planning to use exactly the same cell from Harry Potter in my guide as you used in yours.

@roux
Your way of doing it isn't bad at all. The possibility to edit subpictures is a big plus. I tought about remuxing but I wasn't aware that menuedit copy the buttonlayout.

Still, I would like a freeware way to do it and then remuxing with vobedit is the only alternative. And another thing, does the menuedit way work if the menubuttons isn't visible through the whole cell (that's perhaps unusual, but it seams like that's the case for slayerDK).
