News: More advanced copy-protection to be released this year?

DVD copy protection strengthened

DVDs will be harder to copy thanks to new anti-piracy measures devised by copy protection firm Macrovision



This copy protection apparantly are to be released on all new DVD's this year
What do you people think about this new 'copy protection'?

All I could deduce from the Macrovision page(s) is:

(A) It's a soft-type protection (i.e. not hardware errors on disc) seemingly provided as a plugin of some sort for pro authoring apps,

(B) It can be inserted at several points in a title (including video streams), and

(C) It's something that varies from title to title in some way. Sounds like it could be a bit more clever than what has comes before, but at worst it will slow copying down and put some programs behind the features curve; if a regular DVD player can read it, it can be ripped.

They did say specifically it doesn't affect "most" already-existing DVD players, which hints it may be somewhat more complex than before.
