View Full Version : Write Smartripper’s 'Movie Mode' Files Directly To DVDR

Hi there,

I ripped a dvd onto my hard drive using Smartripper (in movie mode) and was wondering if there’s any program that will burn it straight back onto DVDR without having to convert it to mpeg or avi, I don't want to reduce the quality of the dvd files if possible.

I bought Dvd-Replica thinking it would work but they say I should have used Smartripper's *Backup Mode* to do what I want to do. When I first got the movie, I backed it up on my hard drive until I could afford a burner but I no longer have a working disc of this movie as its scratched to bits.

I'm a newbie but will try anything to get this done if anyone’s got any suggestions, I'd really appreciate it!

Thanks, zibhie.

hi and welcome to the forum,

if you ripped the dvd in movie mode there is no way you could burn just the files you got and get a working DVD. there's simple a lot of files missing to allow for DVd playback.

anyway, there's quite a few ways to recreate these files. basically all you need is a dvd authoring application that allows for vob input so you can feed it your vobs and it will create all the necessary files for you without harming the video quality...

ifoedit might also be worth a try ;)

If you haven't already, please check out Doom9's DVD Backup Guides (http://www.doom9.org/mpg/dvdbackup-guides.htm).

If your DVD does not contain ArccoS copy protection, you can used DVD Shrink to rip and re-author the main movie. At the end, you'll have all your files needed to play your movie and shrunk, if it was to big to begin with. Anyways, here are your guides (http://www.dvdshrink.info/guides.php).

Both of those methods worked perfectly!

I am highly impressed with the ease & efficiency of IfoEdit & DVD Shrink 3.2,
Thanks again guys for all your help.

Here's a summary of what I did:

IfoEdit v0.971
--------------

1. Start IfoEdit, select *Open* & navigate to the Ifo file of your movie.

2. IfoEdit might offer to make all your files uppercase, I accepted this option.

3. Go to *Vob Extras* & Select *Create New IFOs*, let IfoEdit Write the new Ifos.

4. When your new Ifo files are ready, add them to the folder containing your movie.

5. Close IfoEdit & start it again.

6. Select *Open* & go to the (new) Ifo file of your movie & Select *Get VTS Sectors*.

7. Accept any suggested changes, IfoEdit might advise you to delete some Vobs which I did.

8. Finally I used DVD Shrink to compress the film to 4.37gb & Nero to Burn the movie.

The Dvd plays without so much as a glitch:)

By the way, if you have subtitles your VOBs, it'll show a fuzzy green since you had created new IFOs with IfoEdit. You can correct that with this guide (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&postid=283424#post283424) but you need the original IFO's to get the right color. ;)
