View Full Version : mp4 file optimizing?

Well, I am using XviD now with AAC audio. It's all been working great. I use the MP4BoxGUI to mux everything together, and then I do a pass through with Quicktime just to make sure the mp4 files work as they should. So, my problem is that the audio this time happens to be 5.1, and Quicktime (shitty as it is) doesn't like that. So my question is: are there any other ways to do this with other tools like mp4UI/MP4BoxGUI that adds BIFS and OD, ISMA compliance etc? mp4UI is very buggy, so I prefer to not use it right now. The MPEG4IP tools... well, no GUI.

If you mean tools that will help you play Mpeg4/SP/ASP video with 6Ch AAC audio in the .MP4 container, in Apples QuickTime Player... then... no!

Why is it so important for you to use Apples QuickTime Player anyway? For all any of us know it may be buggy also!

Cheers

Why is it so important for you to use Apples QuickTime Player? Mostly because I can set the language to English, and it makes OD/BIFS in the mp4 file, plus it makes the mp4 file ISMA compliant and streaming friendly. I'm not using it as a player, I'm just adding the last touches to the mp4 file. You know, like optimizing it.

Try mp4muxer (http://mp4muxer.movie2digital.com/) . He is optimizing the mp4 file in the last step and you can add all streams without converting them to raw before muxing. :)

Nice, thanks a lot!

Well I've tried it out now, and it did not add any audio streams :(

Try this (http://mrblaschke.movie2digital.de/Debug.zip) new release. We are killing bugs in the moment. So it would be helpful if you tell us everything what is going wrong, many thanks.

The new video is built (in the moment) in the Tempfolder and is named "CompleteVideo.mp4"

Hope you will have fun :)

Still very buggy, if not worse. The complete video file became like 57 mb with no audio, and can't be opened in mp4UI. However, the tmpf4 file turned out great :) What I'd personally like is some kind of editing, and ISO MPEG-4 tags. For the editing part, like language options so I can choose English or other kind of manual text input (For example, if it's English Director's commentary, so I can write that). ISMA compliance would kick ass. Oh and in future releases, make sure to fix so that the video is always first, then the audio (after number) Like:
Track 1 MPEG-4 Video
Track 2 MPEG-4 5.1 Audio
Track 3 MPEG-4 Stereo Audio

both mp4box and mp4creator/mp4ui make isma compliant and both create bifs/od and mp4creator/mp4ui offer an "optimize" option that moves the headers to the start of the file or so, dunno if mp4box doesnt do that automatically

if a file is spec compliant, its spec compliant...
no need to run it though quicktime or anything

no need to run it though quicktime or anything Probably, but I run it through Quicktime because I add streaming hints or whatever they're good for. I also choose English language for audio and video. So that's what I need Quicktime for :)

about the language, i am not sure if that info isnt simply placed in the udta atom, meaning only handled by qt, as not the way to signal the language in .mp4

This time it worked much better, but the complete video file lacked the BIFS/OD. Here's the log:

its required by the isma specification, a non systems player will not need these two streams

mp4muxer optimizes the mp4 in the last step with -optimize from mp4creator. I thought this would be enought. Is this wrong?

So we don´t need -optimize? Should we delete it from mp4muxer commandline?
