There is probably a scratch on a SL dvd (that I legally bought and want to have a back up for myself to use in the caravan etc.): it plays well with PowerDVD, but when I try to make a backup, it keeps giving reading-errors at the same point.

I tried Nero, DVDFab, windows explorer, and alcohol (now running for 4 hours, it is checking the damaged blocks 1 by 1); it gets stuck at 12% during reading (that is, creating the image file).

Is there any way to copy it? Also, could the continues reading for hours like alcohol now does, damage the dvd player?

not sure what movie the dvd SL stands for, and "maybe" with the exception of dvdfab, which might possibility be the only decrypting program your listed, try DVD decrpyter and don't forget to enable "Ignore Read Errors"

if a scratched dvd ran for 4 hours, i'd be surpised if it didn't damage the player itself, and the disc (more so)

Had a DVD that my Granddaughter played with = many scratches
I bought a Maxell Scratch repair kit, $10.00, it did not work
I took a friends advice and filled the scratch with cheap tooth paste and wiped off, got it to backup.
