For those wanting VIP status a minimum donation of $15 is required via paypal or in the UK nochex can be used.
For new users a full install is needed: http://www.numenu4u.com/NuMenu4uFull.exe
For Updates only the UpdateBuild is needed: http://www.numenu4u.com/NuMenu4uUpdate.exe
17/01/06
Fix: Demuxing from a folder was completely broken in previous release
Added: PGCDemux.exe is now included in the install to ensure the fixed version is used
01/01/06
Fix: If the first subpic stream was not 0x20 then sst scanning would fail dumb line of code.
New build of revpulldown included corrects a 3:2 pulldown issue on Film sources
Fix: 0-byte files could have been selected and attempted to be processed errors would occur.
Fix: When confirming that an asset is actually 16:9 and not 4:3 PS, the sub display modes were still being displayed as Wide and Pan, instead of Wide and Letter
Fix: A single still frame as the entire VOB could have errored out on a Conversion
Fix: In conversion mode if one of the cells was a slideshow asset (ie still with audio), then incorrect timings were produced that affected the sub times for all of the following cells in that Vob. Scenarist would crash.
8/9/05
Fix: In Vob Preview when creating the button links, 0 could have been passed causing a division by 0 error.
Fix: When confirming that all video assets had been encoded no account was taken of, if in Vob Preview Keep all original assets was selected. So, the muxer used the original, but the file was being called for encoding also.
Fix: Using Original Assets caused an error when confirming that all assets had been encoded.
31/08/05
Fix: Additional checks are now made to ensure that the VMI commands do not link to non existent PGs (ie authoring errors)
Altered the softencode reg fix batch file. The full path to REGEDIT is now used instead of just REGEDIT. When I upgraded to XP SP2, found that the whole path was needed what gives!!
In Vob Preview can now advance 1 subpicture at a time, and by each cell. In case of multiple subpics now have the ability to process the first subpic and remove unwanted buttons, then NuMenu will search and copy into the other subpics by cell or for the whole vob segment. Clicking a button will now popup a menu instead of the left/right click business. The individual button commands are now shown also (can be switched off if wanted). Also able to see the button links and also the actual button command.
Vob Preview has been redesigned and enlarged to allow easier use of button stripping.
Minor internal fixes.
11/08/05
Fix: Pulldown wasnt being called after HC encodes (if needed).
Fix: closing the recovery console would disable the X in the main form.
Fix: if numenu was minimized to the system tray from dif4u, and then restored a stack error would arise
Added the LOGFILE parameter to the HC ini file, so that any issues will be recorded.
10/08/05
Fix: SoftEncode path this time!
Fix: Incorrect ecl settings could have arisen due to only part of the AVS script being written (this corrects wmansirs error)
Fix: Forward slash was missing from the source path in the Rebuilder.ini file. The source would not be loaded on opening. Also changed Rebuilder to open normally and not minimized.
Noticed that when using PGCDemux for a folder demux, cell demuxing wasnt working correctly
Added a better error handler if no LOG file is produced from DVD2AVI / DGIndex
Fix: Found a bug when writing the PGC type in unprocessed VTSs. If multiple LUs then Root Menu could be written more than once per LU
Further alterations to way the substreams are handled. This time to correct any streams that are not used but exist in the VOB file
Added a sanity check for Format Conversion, encoder issues and authoring issues.
Added multiple language support for the GUI. Pre installed .lang files are English, Italian, German & Dutch. If others are created, they will automatically be found in the install folder. Use the Pre installed ones as a template. (Many thanks to Influenza, TuRiSOft, FreaQ)
Removed the necessity for a progress bar ocx , fixes a particular issue with XP
Added HC Encoder support The latest build with chapter support MUST be used All internal matrices/profile can be used
Also added the ability to set a custom matrix for HC Encoder
Added the ability to use the original matrix of the asset with HC Encoder. The original matrix is determined by analyzing the video segment with QuantDump.
The Eject after Read setting for DVD Decrypter is now automatically corrected to = 0 before NuMenu processing is started. If the setting = 1 before, then the setting will be restored on closure. This is to stop the iso from being dismounted before processing has finished.
Altered the recovery console slightly makes it easier to use
Added an encoding check after CCE has finished. If for some reason CCE failed, encoding will be restarted for just those assets that failed. NB this will not pick up an encode failure that results in only part of the video. If after 4 attempts some assets are still missing then the originals will be used for the missing ones. NB if doing a conversion from PAL -> NTSC this is not possible, so NuMenu will abort
19/07/07
Added option to remove temporary files on completion (except NuMenu4u.log)
Fix: Unable to set the path to SoftEncode
If a VOB is reused across different Language Units , and each LU uses a different substream, NuMenu will now no longer crash, and the scripts have the correct ids flagged.
In Default settings screen, now have the option to permanently set the start up drive or folder / destination drive or folder / actual working directory name.
14/07/05
Fix: If processing multiple VTS sets, then the Aspect Ratio variable was not cleared between VTS sets; the dummy menu file would have an incorrect Aspect Ratio
Fix: If original assets were kept via the VOB Preview screen, then they would still get encoded
Fix: When in muxman mode, and analyzing the button command to determine if the command links to a dummied menu, and if the setting specified was Remove Button Link then the button analysis always reported false for LinkNextCell, LinkPrevCell, LinkNextPG, LinkPrevPG
Correction to the installer was trying to register the cygwin.dll
If using muxman and full script generation then the command JumpSS VTS0 is now reproduced exactly (YOU MUST UPGRADE TO 0.15c)
VIP addition : Use of DGDecode (Modified by D3s7 to output LOG also) is now implemented To satisfy the GPL a weblink to Neuron2s website has been added (Under Help)
Settings are now saved as soon as the Goodbye button is pressed. This means you can set up the settings straight away without having to process a menu.
Added AutoGopSize to the GOP options. This is now the default. For previously installed versions then this will need to be enabled
Updated the copying & sector routines they would fire even if authoring had failed or was skipped caused a sector error
Altered the Scenaid compatability mode switch slightly forces a confirmation of this NB THIS MODE IS NOT YET AVAILABLE IN SCENAID so do not ENABLE
Fix: In scenarist script file, dummy menu files were being created for non processed menus. The expected file therefore didnt exist and scenarist would fail with a placeholder error
Updated the Donate URL
Fix: A source reported as 24fps (not 23.976) would get encoded as 29.97
Fix: The correction for conditional argument in VMI command on previous build, actually broke it in scenarist
Pressing the Cancel button now close Recovery Console aswell as resetting the variables
Altered the dialog control for some of the controls
10/07/05
Fix: Thanks to Trahald a bug came to light in the VIDEO_TS.IFO updating
Fix: A correction to a specific VMI command, that was dropping the conditional argument
Moved the Use Original Assets setting from General Settings to Encoder Makes more sense
Please Update to this build to correct the IFO routines
10/07/05
Fix: When there are more than 600 vobs Scenarist would fail, so a check is made for this, but, this VTS was still called in the UpdateMPV routine causing the error reported by wfn1. NB this restriction doesnt affect VIP users who have Muxman available
When the Copy File setting is set to copy all remaining files (for complete DVD folder or ReBuilder use), then the VTS sector information is now updated automatically.
Added the ability to resize the VOB preview window (This may correct any directx problems unsure but worth a try)
Fix: Broke a scripting part in the previous release for muxman
Noticed a GUI error when manual pausing of Scenarist initiated
Added the ability to generate an ISO image. IF the re-authored menu + the original title VOBs are less than 4.3GB then the original title VOBS will be copied over and an ISO created. If DIF4U is in control it will be shut down. This is a VIP option only.
Finally added the help menu. There are multiple links to the correct part of the Help menu, through each screen
A couple of corrections to the Wizard
Fix: On some occasions the entire AVS script would not be written caused an error in the Preview Window
In the Preview Window, the entire size of the DVD is now shown. Altering the menu bitrate here shows the direct effect on the overall size.
29/06/05
Slight alteration to the UpdateMPV routine
Slight change to the Muxman routine, to reflect Muxman 0.15a when being used in MULTIPLE script mode.
25/06/05
Fix: If the path to Quenc has spaces in it would fail
Fix: Discovered that NuMenu was still attempting to re-encode video streams diagnosed/manually selected as dummy, or files that didnt meet the encoding threshold this could have caused an error
Fix: A PGC link to VMG PGC1 would have caused a muxman error due to a script error
For VIP users added 6 new options
o Replace button command if the button links to a PGC/PG/CELL that has been stripped. If the button is pressed then the cell will repeat
o Remove button if the button links to a PGC/PG/CELL that has been stripped.
o NB In some cases, the button linkage cannot be resolved, if the button works by altering the GPRM values and these are not checked in the linked PGC. NuMenu will check the GPRM values in the linked PGC to see if the common if ( GPRM==
.), LINKPGCN etc exists, In this case the linked PGC can be resolved so the button can be removed.
o Added a Scenaid compatability mode . This will output an appropriate mxp file but wont actually mux. A future build of Scenaid will use this to create a full mxp file for Muxman that will then re-create the entire DVD
o Enhanced the asset removal, so you can now choose to automatically remove all video streams that are not menu screens. This is separated into the VMG and VTS area. In the VMG, non-menu screens are normally warnings etc, in the VTS they are normally intros into menu pages or transitions between menu pages
o Option to automatically load the VMG and/or every VTS on loadup regardless of size
Major enhancement for VIP users: When in the VOB preview screen, the buttons for each menu are now shown. Left clicking the button banner (youll see), will change the button color outline to green this button has now been REMOVED -> Left click to reinstate it. Right clicking will make the button outline majenta this button has now been forced to AUTO ACTION. Right click again to reinstate the FORMER state (active or removed) This can work in conjunction with the above options. If for example you remove a menu, but forget to remove a button that links to that menu, NuMenu will try to fix this for you. Also, when in this screen, there is now a button that will use the original assets instead of re-encoding (perhaps enough material is being removed that re-encoding the remainder is now not necessary)
Fix: When checking the 2nd or 3rd sub stream for compliancy (so the subs = substream1), EnableStop wasnt being set in some cases. This would cause lots of sub errors in scenarist
Fix: The cell still time was still being set in Scenarist is an asset had been dummied. It is now set to 0.
Settings are now saved when the start button is pressed instead of at the end (in case of failure)
Script alteration to reflect the changes made in Muxman 0.15a
Option to automatically select ALL assets in a format conversion, regardless of menu size

Hi Zeul,
I'm having problem with PAL to NTSC menu conversion. I can see it use besweet -> wav, then wav->ac2 using softencode. The final menus still has no sound.
Have tried 2.0.1, 2.0.2 and now trying this 2.0.3
Inspected by doing manual load with scenarist shows the audio folder empty.
Also was using scenarist 3.0 so I'm now trying 2.7 to see how it goes, but doubt this is the issue.
And also to report the new vobtest does not work and crashes with 2.0.3
The material I'm converting, checked with IFOedit shows the audio track of the menu was unknown instead of English, should that even matter?
Any insight to this problem appreciated.
Keep up the good work :)

Hi Zeul,
I have a problem with NuMenu4U. I have stripping some VOBID from menu, then have blanked some from other VTS and corrected a line of script code in the VGM Menu. After this I have create an image, blanking the entire film, because I need NuMenu only for MENU!!!! :D When i start the procedure, NuMenu say can't open. The program that crash is VOB TEST. But, for me, it's DVD Decrypter that fails the division in VOB ID, because is too fatt.
NuMenu runs well if I insert the original DVD, but I want to strip some VOBID before. And I can't make an image with file of film included for few space on my HD.
Sorry for my English.

@nicolati
I think you have a problem that i experience when running nm4u on error files sent to me. DVDDec doesn't recognise the disc, so nm4u fails. After creating your new iso (after stripping), run dvddec tools to create an mds file. Mount the mds file and now dvddec recognises the disc ;)

Thanks for the feedback

2.0.4 Changelog:
The file size displayed is now more accurate. If the vob file exists but is a 0 byte file this is now not selectable for processing.
Stupid syntax error that would cause an error after VOBTest had been run and incorrect cell type identified
Correction to slideshow play time if format conversion enabled
Updated Menu_Ifo_Update to correct the format after a format conversion if full compile not enabled and to update the palette if necessary
Due to an error if conversion was enabled and the cell type was slideshow then instead of a framecount of 1 being passed to the encoder, the actual playtime (in frames) was passed, causing a scenarist buffer error.
It has been found on one particular disc (thanks to Angelus) that there are some VTSs that are totally unreferenced in the VIDEO_TS.IFO which as far as I know is against DVD specs, this was causing an error in the ifo analysis.
In a format conversion if the original audio was AC3 then it was incorrectly named after processing, forcing the script to ignore the audio files ie no audio in the output
During audio encoding if the original was PCM audio and there was a negative delay denoted by [-..] and a conversion then softencode would fail, again causing no audio in the output
Slight alteration to the button position calculation in a format conversion
Revpulldown is now used for adding pan-scan information if it fails then internal routines will be used instead, but this only corrects the first GOP header
http://www.numenu4u.com/NuMenu4u.2.0.4.zip includes the updated MenuUpdate.exe, VobTest also

Hey Zeul, I finally got my system all set back up and am testing the new version.
I'm having a problem with ProCoder that I haven't encountered before.
The error is Scenarist script importing failed due to duration of video mis-match. As you know ProCoder divides chapters into parts, in my case:
001.pt.001.mpv
001.pt.002.mpv
It appears the parts are being assembled correctly into the single file 001.mpv in the FRAMESERVING folder, but when I look in the NEW_M2V folder the resulting 001.M2V only contains the video from 001.pt.01.mpv.
I recall seeing the multi-part encodes with ProCoder in my previous test, and they worked fine, but then this is a completely fresh install, so it could be something that has changed on my end.

I'm having a duration mismatch problem with 2 DVDs (the only ones I've tried with the new version so far) that did not give me any warnings before. Unsure what to think because Scenarist outputs working menus, although I wonder if they're oversized.
Switched to ProCoder 1.5, that might be the reason ...

Switched to ProCoder 1.5, that might be the reason ... Probably that's the problem. Use ProCoder 2 till the problem is fixed.
Anyway, I don't think the output produced by ProCoder2 is worse than the one by ProCoder1.5

Zeul
22nd February 2005, 09:10
the procoder problem has been fixed i believe - running some tests now. With regard to all the parts not being joined, this was actually a revpulldown error. Due to mulitple parts revpulldown was stopping at the first sequence_end_code. Trahald has kindly corrected this with the use of some new switches, however, the latest released build of NuMenu4u obviously doesn't pass these new switches. Await the newest release :) or use CCE instead, or Quenc

if you launch the encoder minimized, CCE SP 2.70 works without problems, so users don't need an external program.
The external program is necessary for programs not developed anymore...

Today, i found out that when Numenu4u converts the WAV audio to AC3 using SoftEncode, the sound is of lower quality.
The original "wav" is clear, but the "ac3" file is dull.
If i convert the wav file using outside the Numenu4u, the sound is perfect.
I tried both 192 and 224 bitrate, but the same low quality.
Does anybody have the same problem?
I tied 2 more DVD'S with wav audio in the menus, and have the same problem.
The best way i can convert to high quality AC3 files and maintain the volume level as the original, is with EncoreDVD.

George

@kle500
Are you saying that if you encode the wav file with softencode yourself then the quality is far superior to when softencode is run by numenu4u. If this is the case what are the exact settings you use when run manually?
kle500
2nd March 2005, 23:39
@Zeul
Yes, that's exactly what happens.
Settings?
Default in SoftEncode. i don't touch anything.
Only the volume is lower, but quality is same as the wav file.
I will check again.
Using Besweet the quality is excelent (same as wav).
But Besweet is inferior to Softencode.

I think this thread has shed some light on this problem:
http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=56020&perpage=20&highlight=softencode&pagenumber=1
I have always used the default setting of -27db, however, it seems that analysing the wav file would prove to be better and hence i can plug in the correct normalization. You can always edit the .ini file in the frameserving folder and re-run the bat file to re-encode.

I wanted to use NuMenu 2.0.4 on a little 9Mo menu (made of stills).
The source is PAL, 720x576@25fps.
I checked "encode stills" in CCE options. And after the CCE process (before scenarist), I saw that NuMenu transformed all the *.m2v in NTSC (I was using CCE 2.70.01.05).
I tried with CCE 2.67.00.27, and it's the same. Videos are transformed to NTSC (720x480@29.97).
SO I checked the *.ecl created by Numenu and I saw this:
height=480
....
frame_rate_idx=4
And I didn't checked "Convert PAL->NTSC". It seems that this problem only occurs with stills.
kle500

@Zeul
I see that the final ac3 file, has incorrect bitrate.
Allthough i tell Numenu4u to encode to 192, the converted ac3 file is 92.
That's why it is of lower quality.
No matter what bitrate i say to numenu4u to encode, the final is allways 92.

George.

If you open up the ini file in the frameserving folder what does the datarate= show?
kle500
4th March 2005, 20:43
Update to Softencode settings...
Sorry.. my mistake.
The bitrate is allways 224, no matter what i choose.
But the quality is totally different from the wav.
I was curious to see the quality from Besweet, and HeadAC3he using same bitrate (192).
Both Besweet and HeadAC3he created AC3 files of the same quality like the wav file.
Allthough Softencode as a standalone, produces the same quality as the wav file (using -31 in dialog normalization, produces the same volume as the original file), via Numenu4U, the quality is lower !!!!!!!
Can someone confirm?
kle500

@Zeul
The ini file says allways 224, no matter what bitrate i choose to encode.

4th March 2005, 21:05
by default i turn on surround sound, that will reduce the 'loudness' of the output. In your manual encode is this switched on or off, and if the dialog is set to -27db how does the output compare?
kle500
4th March 2005, 21:12
@Zeul
The surround setting, is the surround mode?
If yes, i choose: Not indicated.
In my manual encode, by using -31db, 192kbps, no surround, the sound is same quality and volume.
All other setting, are the same as in the ini file.
I just tested to encode from Numenu, at 384kbps.
Final .ini file says 224.

ok i think i have found the bug that is causing 224 t0 always be written. as a test can you run softencode manually, with dialog set to -27, surround on. bitrate of 224, 2/0 channel mode. how does the output compare to the numenu made ac3?
Zeul
4th March 2005, 22:19
I think i have the probable cause..maybe.. In the ini file can you change the setting DlgNorm=-27dB to DlgNorm=27
From the help file writing -27db has no effect, and if you then verify the file the result for normalization comes back reserved.

@Zeul...
I wish i could run softencode manually.
It crashes allways when i try to encode anything.....
But with
I tried to change allmost all settings in the ini file, with no difference.
BTW. by changing -27db to 27db, No difference.
Haha......
I see now that by changing the DCfilter to OFF, makes a lot of difference.
To the better of cource.
I let you know later, on more tests.

I did the test you said....
There is no compare between the .bat encoding and the manual encoding in quality.
Allthough the same settings, totaly different.
To produce the same quality and same level on softencode, i had to move to -31bd, and for the compression, i choose NONE.
The quality is the same as the wav file.

I still get duration mismatch warnings, but for a different problem from the one that's already been fixed. ProCoder 1.5 (not 2) seems to output many seconds of blank space at the end of short (~2 second) segments. I wonder what's up with that.

Hi Zeul,
Would it be easy to add a feature to ask NuMenu to convert PAL->NTSC by selecting a VOB file other than vts_xx_0.vob
The result need not have to include the ifo's, just the converted vob.
;)
Thanks

Although possible i suppose, that would take NuMenu4u out of just the menu domain. That is a job better suited to dif4u/scenaid. All you need to do is change the AVS scripts in dif4u and this will output your compliant m2v. If you need to alter the audio then just add the audio files from dif4u to the .bat file in the working dir/frameserving folder. Change the names to whatever and run the bat. this will give you your compliant m2v / ac3 files. You will of course have to manually recreate the scenario in scenarist, as this will confuse the hell out of scenaid.

I just retried to backup "Cool Runnings" menu (PAL, made of stills, only 9Mo).
I want to backup this little menu with NuMenu4u beccause I replaced a subtitle stream, and I want to change the Menu Button accordingly (and numenu demux/remux all, I just need to change 2-3 pictures during the process)
And the problem occurs again with 2.0.5:
1) in *.ecl you can see that:
height=480
...
frame_rate_idx=4
....
instead of "576" & "3" for PAL.
2) The subtitles are processed like if it was 720x480. In the *.idx you see that:
# Original frame size
size: 720x480
and in the *.sst you see that:
TV_Type NTSC
Tape_Type NON_DROP
Pixel_Area (0 477)
...
Display_Area (0 2 719 479)
I don't know how to explain better the problem. I'm afraid my bad english doesn't describe the problem clearly enough.
But I swear that the original menu is 720x576, and that I didn't checked "PAL->NTSC conversion" (the *.avs are normal. No sign of conversion at all) ;-)
Zeul
5th March 2005, 19:36
well i don't change the sst at all in this regard (although i do write the .ifo that vsrip uses), so if vsrip thinks the files are ntsc resolution and so does numenu then wtf? what do the d2v files and d2v.log files say?

Only reason I ask is coz there are some dvd come with games for kids that I need converted from PAL->NTSC. These vobs have a mixture of animated+stills with/without audio and with buttons (BOV?) So very similar to menus. The dif4u is more suited for pure video?

Have you think about Numenu4u will compress/convert whole DVD with big3 tools, and using Numenu4u as the main program?
Launching/closing all the required programs for a DVD conversion...
I think your program has a better interface to manage all the big3 tools...
Maybe another developers will not agree with this...
But I think the big3 tools method is the better way to convert a DVD and need to be improved a bit.
The hardest part of a DVD conversion is managing of menus files and you did it very well. Why not manage the rest of the DVD files with the existing tools and Numenu4U?

Hi Zeul.
I've tried out your program NUMenu4U, but I've got a little problem. It doesn't work in Windows 2003 Server. (But it works well in WinXP). I can start the program in win2003 but as soon as I touch any of the menues (Start, Encoder, Scenarist,...) at the top, the whole program crashes. I get two messages that tell me that there is something wrong. Unfortunally I cant post it here right now becaouse my server isn't available at the moment.
Is this a big issue for you to fix or do you think you can make it to your next version of NUMenu4U?

EnDeR_PL
I am presuming that you have not actually tried your menus, because your VIDEO_TS.VOB is full of dummies. This has been discussed in several threads before. Looking at the IFO shows:
Menu Language Units: 1
Language Menu Unit 1: [English]
Language Menu Unit 1: [English]
Menu 1: [Title-Menu] (entry PGC) (Programs: 1) (Cells: 1) (uses VOB-IDs: 1)
Menu 2: [entry only] (Programs: 0) (Cells: 0)
Menu 3: [entry only] (Programs: 0) (Cells: 0)
Menu 4: [entry only] (Programs: 0) (Cells: 0)
Menu 5: [entry only] (Programs: 0) (Cells: 0)
Menu 6: [entry only] (Programs: 0) (Cells: 0)
Menu 7: [entry only] (Programs: 1) (Cells: 1) (uses VOB-IDs: 3)
Menu 8: [entry only] (Programs: 0) (Cells: 0)
Menu 9: [entry only] (Programs: 0) (Cells: 0)
Menu 10: [entry only] (Programs: 0) (Cells: 0)
Menu 11: [entry only] (Programs: 0) (Cells: 0)
Menu 12: [entry only] (Programs: 0) (Cells: 0)
You can see that only vobs 1 & 3 are called from any of the menu PGCs. Hence 2 is never called and is stripped out. Now, unusally looking at the actual VOB file, ids 4 & 5 are also present even though they are not listed in the IFO. Again these are stripped. I appreciate that these stripped vobs may contain video and audio but i guarantee that they are copies of some of the vobs in VTS_01_0.vob. As a rsult your menus will be unaffected but you have saved 99MB instantly.

first of all - thank you for your great tool. as a vip user i now have the possibility to reencode menus in a VERY high quality. This could΄nt be done before with freeware-tools (like muxman)...
From now on you already use pgcdemux and muxman. ALso there is a mode to stip unwanted material. So Numenu4u became "THE" tool to prepare dvd΄s before using Rebuilder.
There is only one feature missing... :) You would need to use only one more tool for this feature (besweet)... In some cases it is VERY useful to compress audio. For instance in TNG or Voyager serial dvd΄s - if you want to keep at least 2 audiotracks. The biterate for video increases from less than 2500 to more than 2700 - and thats VISIBLY better! So - if you want to try out a new feature - please compress audio :) There is an exellent guide from Malcom on doom9 that describes the way - quite mechanical and maybe quite easy im implement - because most of the way is already gone in Numenu4u.
Thank you again for your great tool!!!

Hmmm... ok, on very rare standalones there may be some problems with besweet... Not al real problem to me. Maybe a feature for VIP to use on own risk :) I use headac3 to create ac3-audio.
What about ffmpeg? Not the best one, I know. But remeber, it΄s just to keep a 2-chan-audio - the quality is not as important as the main-audio...
In Pal-Land we can use MP2 instead og AC3...

New release , several bug fixes and some improvements
Updated to 2.0.10a - quick correction

Like a few others have mentioned, I haven't had NuMenu4u be able to start up more than one CCE pass (CCE versions 2.66.01.07 and 2.67.00.27) since version 2.0.6 was released. It only does the initial analyze and then skips the following 5. I've tried every release since 2.0.5 with no luck. I've attached a zip of log and ecl files from NM4U v2.0.5 and 2.0.10a using CCE 2.67 (I split up the 2.0.5 ecl files into 25 assets per file for easier comparison with the later version files). I can provide more files if needed.. Is there something I'm doing wrong?
just to confirm that in DIF4U you do have multipass VBR set up in the avs script editor
Oruku Saki
11th May 2005, 01:12
Ah.. you're absolutely right.. I missed that completely. Out of curiosity why was the multipass happening with the older version when DIFU was set on roba? Thanks again.
I am still unsure how Roba works, so NuMenu deaults to multipass instead
Oruku Saki
11th May 2005, 02:22
hmm.. i can set multipass no problem in dif4u, but when nm4u opens, I look at the avs settings and it is back on roba, and only one pass happens..
avs settings?
i have tried so many combinations of cce encoder from dif4u and every time multipass is set then i get the #of passes i wanted. If roba is selected then the same.
What version of CCE are you using?
The numenu4u encoder settings are not used, if numenu4u has been started by dif4u, Whatever options are selected in dif4u will be used.
Please confirm that if multipass or roba is set in dif4u and the #of passes is set to 6 then cce only runs once. I presume that your cce version is not a basic version (this only has 1 pass plus the vaf creation)
Oruku Saki
12th May 2005, 01:31
using CCE SP trial version 2.67.0.27 - tried both multipass and roba in dif4u, with various # of passes.. still only one pass by CCE. i can get multipass to work on numenu4u 2.05 and earlier just fine though
I am using the exact same build.
On encoding start i get the cce screen showing pass 1 / 1 while it creates the vaf file. then it clears and restarts with pass 1 / 5.
Total passes = 6
If yours is different send me the log & ecl file
Oruku Saki
12th May 2005, 02:04
right.. that exactly what i get if i reinstall 2.05 and earlier.. its bizarre.. i don't get the clear and restart for 5 more passes with the later versions. cce just goes on to the next in queue - 1/1 pass only.
i will get back to you with the log and ecl soon -- in the meantime thanks for all the great work

I want to pop up a little prob. It was there in v.2.0.10 and it is still there in 2.0.11 .
with Harry Potter 1 reg 2 Pal DVD1 if I remux w/MuxMan an error will pop up during the phase when NuMenu re-adds the command infos in the newly authored files (even if I do or don't reencode assets).
Working w/Scenarist does not give any error. I tried all settings.
I also noticed that if I want to keep my settings I got to tick and change all I want (I use to add some filters on AviSynth section) and then close the app. , 'cause if I don't do so and for whatever cause the app crashes (like in the case above) it not retains all the changes I made.
Hoping to be helpful , I can retry all the procedures above and send you the logs and any helpful info , if you want.
I'm asking here what to do only to not fill your mailbox with garbage.
Thanks a lot.
Make sure you have the latest build of muxman....
or wait a few days for the new build of .15 which fixes quite a few issues
.14 had a few issues w/ navigation packs and wierd bmp locations that caused problems

If this is the problem Zeul identified and was fixed with 0.15pd then the latest public version, 0.14e, contains the same fix. It is going through final testing right now and should be available for download in an hour.

when numenu get's to the point "Converting SubPictures" in the log window, i get an error from vsconv. It says "Error: Can't open input" and i can then press OK. i press the butten, and now it shows how to use vsconv (switches)
It pops up a couple of times, then says that the converting is done and goes on like it's ok
Don't think it's and numenu error, but i can't get i to work and its not just one movie, it's all of those i have tryed.
Any ideas?

It happened to me many many times , but only after I tried to restart a process (from the beginning , dest dir deleting included) without closing the session.
The only workaround I found for this is to close then re-open NuMenu.
Don't know what is it related with!!
@TuRiSOft
If the problem persists with the new muxman build (14e) then please send me the log file.
@mvfarmer
Not seen that error before. Please send me the log and entire subtitles folder.
@Oruku Saki
I have received your files and am investigating
edit:
I have found the problem and i think it is DIF4U. In this latest build i decided to inc the c/l that DIF4U uses:
DIF4U CommandLine=/start /path="C:\dvd\life" /threshold=25 /drive=F /passes=5 /avebitrate=2000 /minimize /deinterlace /cceo /ccev /close
/cceo /ccev are both written.
One is for onepass, the other vbr multipass
now this needs further investigation. What version of DIF4U are you running. I have most so can hopefully replicate. Please state ALL of your exact settings in DIF4U also. thanks
NM it is build 1.4.0 (the public release build)
I have tested each setting - onepass, multipass, roba. Each time /cceo /ccev is written regardless.
So 2 things are possible. One is upgrade your DIF4U version (requires donation) or 2nd I can release a build with options to override dif4u settings (although i don't want to do this).
Perhaps Eyes' can shed some thoughts.

I have at least one problem. This vob has over 500 cells. Not a problem except that the vob created by dvddecrypter contains 255 cells, then the cell# is reset to 1. I think this is a dvddecrypter error.
What version of dvddec are you using? I thought this bug had been fixed a longtime a go.
Try opening the actual videoTS folder instead of the iso (ie press the open folder button). Make sure that pgcdemux is installed in the numenu folder.
PGCDemux will demux out each cell.
I have a disc here somewhere that >700 cells but i can't find it right now to test (always the way eh!)

I use DVDdecrypter 3.5.4.0, newest version.
Indstalled PGCdemux like you said, and opend the files from VIDEO_TS, istead of the iso,
The log said Demuxing whit PGCDemux, so that part was ok, but it's the same thing, it's like the file it tries to open is not there :(
Do you want the new files sent?, probably the same as the first.
Just tried playing the menu in power dvd, and it seems to play right, but still... it's not good to have an error come up in the middle of the process :)

i open VTS_01_0.VOB (Menu) in vobedit.

192572 [Navigation Pack] [VOB: 37] [CELL: 1], 0012
192573 [Video Pack] [GOP] [I], 07ec
192574 [Video Pack], 07ec
192575 [Video Pack], 07ec
192576 [Video Pack], 017e
this is the last 5 lines on the left side.
Is this the one you mean?:
192572 [Navigation Pack] [VOB: 37] [CELL: 1], 0012
because then i don't think there is more then 255 of them

can you send me the log, original ifo & authored ifo
Master Yoda
The menu is indeed 4:3 pan-scan according to the IFO. If you drop the original mpv into scenarist it should report 4:3 pan-scan. If you drop the new mpv in 4:3 pan-scan should also show.
Please advise.

I never actually check the ifo i check, i just opened the menu vob in dvd2avidg.exe and that showed up the video footage ar as 16.9 and so did bitrate veiwer, but the newly encoded footage ar is 4.3
I take it all the buttons are misaligned then. What concerns me here, is that the IFO definately suggests a 4:3 with pan-scan encode. This is the normal. To clarify:
If the IFO says 16:9 with automatic display to pan-scan, then the video is actually encoded as 4:3 pan-scan flag enabled.
If the IFO saya 16:9 with automatic display to letter, then the video is a true 16:9 aspect.
The only other variation is if the IFO says 16:9 and both pan-scan and letter are flagged. This suggests a 16:9 pan-scan encode.
This i believe is only the 2nd time a post like this has been reported, so...
Either the IFO is incorrect/badly authored OR my understanding is off. BTW D3s7 uses the same principles for scenaid.
As dvd2avi doesn't show the pan-scan flag, please as I asked earlier drop the original into scenarist and post what it says.
Mpucoder if you read this perhaps you can confirm or deny.
Thanks
edit:
Just tried every combo in scenarist.
a 4:3 pan-scan encode with displaymode set pan & letter gives an IFO with AR=16.9 and pan flag & letter flag set
a 4:3 pan-scan encode with displaymode set to pan only gives an IFO with AR=16:9 and pan flag only set
a 16:9 encode (with or w/out pan flag) with displaymode of letter (only available choice) gives an IFO with AR=16:9 and letter flag set
SO..
with you IFO the video is 4:3 pan-scan encoded OR the IFO is fubar

@Zeul - correct, panscan video should show 4:3 DAR, and have panscan headers. I'd like a copy of the authored ifo, too.
@mpucoder
Out of interest what will the standalone do when the actual video doesn't match what the IFO says, which appears to be Master Yoda's problem?
@Turisoft
I can see the problem with the files you sent me, NuMenu didn't update the video_ts.ifo correctly. This is the reason for the errors
@Master Yoda
Have you done as suggested?
Master Yoda
20th May 2005, 00:18
I check the ifo and it says 16:9 (pan & scan) but i have'nt done as suggested yet, have'nt had the chance.
UPDATE...
I just dropped the first original m2v's from the menu into data in scenarist,i click on the file up in the top section and then at the bottom centre of the screen it says..
Encode Type MPEG2
Size 720 x 576
Aspect Ratio 16:9
If i then dropped the same file but the new encode from numenu the aspect ratio changes to say 4:3(pan-scan)

@Master Yoda and Zeul: To many authoring programs 16:9 and 4:3(panscan) are equivalent (MuxMan included). Both are anamorphic. The difference is the 4:3(panscan) file contains the proper headers for panscan. Without the headers the player will show the horizontally centered 540 pixels per line. Players use the ifo values, as mpeg-2, at the time DVD was developed, did not support multiple AR or display modes (mpeg-2 has since been extended to support multiple display windows). Changing 16:9 to 4:3(panscan) is a simple matter of adding some headers and changing the DAR, no encoding is needed.
@Turisoft
I am in the process of determinimg the cause of the update error. You also processed VTS_03, the ifo which was correctly updated. So for the moment either only do VTS_03 or put the project on hold for a couple of days until I fix the problem. NB If you use Scenarist the updating is different so the problem will go away.
@Mpucoder
Thanks for the clear explanation. So it seems that Master Yodas IFO is correct. Which leaves the question. If 4:3PS and 16:9 can both be shown in the IFO as AR 16:9 with pan flag set, then I cannot use the IFO as the source information. This means additional parsing of the actual m2v is going to be needed to get the actual encode method (4:3 pan or 16:9)

why when i encoding menu i can only set animation bitrate, but static menu always have 7500b.
Because a still encodes very poorly with less than 7500. I may actually increase this level, as CCE still gives slightly blocky encodes. There is absolutely no point in VBR for a still - there is only 1 frame.

Any news about issues I told you (VIDEO_TS.IFO incorrect when using MuxMan for Re-Muxing)?
I can confirm there is no problem using Scenarist on the same title (neither using MuxMan and deselecting VIDEO_TS from the list of VTSs to reauthor)!!!
Can this issue be related to the kind of encoding I use (CCE OPV , Q=30 , Avisynth filters added to the script : UNDOT () - DEEN () - MipSmooth (preset="movieHQ") ) ?
@Turisoft
There was a serious problem with the IFO generator for Video_ts.ifo if some of the tables didn't exist in the original. This has now been corrected and a fix is due any day.

Logged off closed down virus soft/firewalls etc and tried again. Worked like a charm. The DVD in question was The Simpsons s5 disk1.
What is the ecl threshold (under encoder tab), its possible there were too many files being loaded into CCE. Try lowering the number of assets to encode in the ecl.

@Zeul, hey I also tried ProCoder 2 version 2.04.02.00 and am getting some errors. It encodes fine, but during the encode; seems to be maybe the short segments; procoder pops up and says that the temp file it is trying to write already exists. All I do is wait like 5 seconds, keep the same name then it's fine. Not sure if it's all happening too fast and the temp file isn't getting deleted fast enough (if it gets deleted or renamed as I am not sure what it does). I never tried any earlier version of procoder 2.

This issue is now solved.
Thanks to D3s7 for the help and testing.

I didn't receive this error on previous builds so I thought I'd let you know.
Just a note - I got the same error but on build 2.0.16 too.. just clicked Ignore and went on with no apparent problems
for those users receiving the "c:\Program Files\NuMenu4u\cygwin1.dll
Unable to register the DLL/OCX : DllRegisterServer export not found" error, it is as a result of this new feature:
Added the ability to generate an ISO image. IF the re-authored menu + the original title VOBs are less than 4.3GB then the original title VOBS will be copied over and an ISO created. If DIF4U is in control it will be shut down. This is a VIP option only.
simply add the mksiofs.exe & cygwin.dll from imgtoolclassic into the install folder.

Update: My issue with Slacker (R1) menu didn't really go away after I upgraded to .17
Instead of getting an error this time NM just copies everything from the source directory to the target directory without processing anything.

@wfn1
As i already said, this is in your case is due to the # of vob files, and that scenarist can't handle that #, there is nothing i can do about it - apart from skip the VTS and copy it instead of processing. Using muxman would not have this restriction. Check the Help file
@flu
Same menu or the same on a different one?
If this situation does arrive, it is written into the LOG file
For those receiving the reg error on install, my mistake, I had accidently set the installer to register the cygwin.dll, but this is not required.

hello,
I have problems to use softencode in 2.0.18. If I doubleklick the softencode executable, numenu tells me that the specified folder is wrong. All oder versions from numenu4u runs like a charm with softencode. So is it possible that there is a bug in 2.0.18?? I have made no changes to softencode! No reinstall and so on. Zeul, I have a question about using the "Update_Menu_ifo" dos batch file
I use DIFU 1.4.7.0 followed by NuMenu and then ScenAid 1.7.0.2.
DIFU calls NuMenu and automatically continues after NuMenu completes. The "new menu files" are stored in the VIDEO_TS folder. After this completes, I run Scenaid with Muxman. After Scenaid completes the "auto update ifo's", do I still need to run the "Update_Menu_Ifo" dos batch file created from NuMenu?
Also, if I used the Scenarist method and then Batchupdateifo (using either the reverse or normal batchupdateifo method), would I still need to run this. I'm wondering if I don't use the VIDEO_TS folder as my destination but the Muxman or Scenarist "0" folders if this will cause a problem with "Update_Menu_Ifo" not updating these new files properly or if I need to even use this when the "other" (Scenaid or Batchupdateifo) updates have completed. I hope you understand what I'm trying to ask.
Thanks
Zeul
3rd August 2005, 08:08
@pike007
You do not need to run the update_menu.bat file. This is only to be used if full compile was not set in scenarist when numenu was running.
When Scenaid has completed you run batchifoupdate as normal on the main VIDEO_TS folder, and the scenaid/0 folder (use can either normal or reverse)
If using muxman then no further intervention is needed. Scenaid will update the ifos correctly and move all of the non-processed files (which will include any unprocessed VTS's and ALL the menu files) from the VIDEO_TS folder into the muxman/video_ts folder.

(I know this is not directly a "menu" type of problem, but it seems to fall under a Numenu type of job ;) )The FBI warnings are located in this VTS (VTS_02) Title 2, pgc_2, vobid 1 and 2. The 3rd vobid is just a black frame. I thought about just deleting playback of Vobid 1,2,3,4 but I would like 4 to play. If this type of question has been asked before I apologise.
Numenu really does a great job Zeul!

4th August 2005, 10:14
As this is in the Title domain, NuMenu won't do anything about it. My only suggestion is to delete playback of these cells with pgcedit, or which is probably easier - they are all stills so they will have a cellpause > 0. Set the cell pause to = 0 then the stills will show and then disappear immediately.

vobs 21 & 22 were not encoded , yet they exist in the ecl file. If you manually load in the ecl are 21 & 22 shown?
Also try reducing the #of assets per ecl ( in the encoder settings)
wfn1

see your pm
Do these last 2 assets actually get encoded? do they exist in the frameserving folder?
wfn1
8th August 2005, 06:09
Zeul,
PM replied.
The frameserving folder contains .d2v, .avs and .log files for vobs # 21 and 22. However, the .vaf file for vob 21 is missing and expectedly 21.m2v is missing from the \NEW_M2V\ folder.
Zeul
8th August 2005, 08:12
@wfn1
which suggests that even though vob#21 gets loaded up via the ecl, it still doesn't get encoded.
Can you try it with quenc / procoder / earlier build of cce and see how that performs. If they work, then there is a problem with cce.
wfn1
8th August 2005, 08:48
Zeul,
Just finished running it with cce 2.66.01.07 - same error. I'm falling asleep so I'll have to try procoder tomorrow.
Zeul
8th August 2005, 18:01
If you watch cce encode (just click the cce icon in the system tray to restore it), does it encode #21 ?
wfn1
8th August 2005, 19:09
Zeul,
Ok, the plot thickens. With .20 using CCE 2.66.01.07 it doesn't even get to 21 or 22. Even 20 doesn't get completely encoded. CCE builds the .vaf for 20 and does 3 passes out of the preset 6 and then the CCE window disappears and I get my error. That's with 25 assets per .ecl, I'm going to try it with a smaller # and see if it does the same thing.
mpucoder
8th August 2005, 19:16
Just a thought - have you checked your free space?
wfn1
8th August 2005, 19:31
Zeul,
When I do 15 assets per .ecl the vobs 20 and 21 are the last ones to be encoded. The encoder dies on vob 20 on the 3rd pass just as I described in my previous message. Then it loads the 2nd .ecl with the remaining vob 22 and encodes that. Do you need me to assemble some files for analysis?
Edit: Yes, I have 65GB free on the drive.
Zeul
8th August 2005, 20:08
very bizarre.
Open the ecl in a text editor and delete everything except 20 & 21. Load the ecl and see what happens. I'm going to review the ecl file again
Zeul
8th August 2005, 20:19
I have just thought , also, open vob #20 (as that seems to be the problem) in mediaplayer and let it run. Are there any problems? It does suggest that vob#20 has something about it that is a problem, although for the life of me i haven't got a clue
btw the ecl for vob#20 & 21 is identical to vob#19 and the log & d2v file correspond also.
D3s7
8th August 2005, 20:23
my turn my turn :)
this was suggest by another user with another problem but all was an issue w/ CCE
Try replacing in your avs files AddAudio() and the addin w/ KillAudio()
this seems to resolve many issues w/ cce erroring out and or skipping files
I believe you can replace it in the avs editor of Numenu as it re-creates the avs files each time
wfn1
8th August 2005, 22:33
**** EDIT: Substituting KillAudio() for AddAudio() in AVSEditor does not change anything.
Zeul,
Removed everything from .ecl except vobs 20 and 21, the encoding completes without a hitch. Checked the resulting .mpv's in MPC they're completely fine from a visual standpoint.
D3s7,
I'll try your suggestion next and post the results.
Zeul
8th August 2005, 22:40
Well i would say this definately points to a cce problem somewhere. You can always try setting the #of assets per ecl to = 1. This will create an ecl for each vob.
wfn1
9th August 2005, 01:51
**** UPDATE: figured this error out. for some reason during one of my sessions nm asked me if i wanted to process scripts separately and that switched me to muxman .14

I have corrected the error trap for that. That shouldn't have been allowed to happen.
Changing the scripting option for muxman has no bearing on the encoding - it justs outputs a different script file.
I suspect setting the #assets per ecl to 1 was the answer.

Hi Zeul,
NuMenu 2.0.21 with Muxman 0.15i
I've noticed that when I try to strip a button ( eg:french audio) from a menu, (let's say VOB:5 CELL 2 BMP:1) the BMP:1 will advance to BMP:2 and when this happens, I have to select the same button again in order to remove it as it changed from green back to red. On this particular DVD I'm doing I have to keep selecting the same button at least 30 times during the preview playback in order to eliminate it. I never noticed this before with older versions. Is this by design or is it just a problem with the DVD I'm doing?
My DVD is Spiderman, NTSC, R1
jel
19th August 2005, 04:33
doesnt the menu for spiderman have animated buttons?
if that is the case, there really may need to be 30+ bmp's/highlights that need to be altered.
Zeul
19th August 2005, 11:32
Spiderman R1 is the hardest menu to reproduce that we have found so far. Jel is correct it has animated buttons, and in some cells there are over 200 bmp's. Each bmp will have to have the button manually removed. I will look to see if it possible to try and automate the button stripping for the buttons within the same cell.

It's a pretty uncommon situation, but I've seen those before. If you're using the latest scenaid the menu should be processed correctly, since it can do Button over video. AFAIK there's no way to do this with numenu4u.
Zeul

NuMenu only processes either the Video_ts.vob or *_0.vobs. Other menus that reside in the title domain are very rare and when they are, are often games. As flu said, Scenaid should have no trouble dealing with it.

Hi Zeul,
I recently did a menu that was approx 70 megs and chose a bitrate of 2750 (which you recomended in the help file, so I tried it of course) and noticed that after everything I had a new menu of about 90 megs.
Does Numenu currently check to make sure it won't actually create a larger menu?
Also, would it be possible to add an option to actually decrease a menu by a certain percentage (10%, 15%, 20%, 25%) or something?. I noticed that my menus don't always look the same "quality wise" from one DVD to another with the same bitrate and a fixed percentage may help with that.
Thanks,

I was wondering if there was any plans to add a option that lets you replace the video footage in a menu file with stills??? im backing a dvd up that has some useless footage in video_ts.vob, its not fake/dummy footage as numenu does'nt strip it out but ive checked and i dont see it come up anywhere on the dvd. Replacing the footage with stills could drop it down to less than 5mb or so, at the mo its about 200mb.

In the VIP version, you can manually remove specific vobids from the VTS. So if it wasting space, and is selected to be removed, then a still is put there instead, and the still time changed to 0. So the still is played (if in fact it is used), but for 1 frame duration only.

I've ran into a problem when trying to do the menu on the movie "Crash". I've used the latest NuMenu4u and everything completed successfully but the menu is encoded in full screen, rather than widescreen as in the source menu. Just as a check, I checked the d2v files for a couple of them and they have the correct 16:9 aspect ratio set, and the avs files seem to be ok too. It's just that the resulting m2v files after the encoding are in fullscreen. Any ideas?

I am using NM4u 2.0.23. Everytime I try to encode using file method 2, 3, or 4, the program either crashes or gives an error along the lines of "Something went wrong". This always happens after the encoding step.
I am using Muxman, and I have tried with different combos of Muxman 1.4g or 1.6_01, QuEnc or HC (I do not have CCE), AviSynth 2.5.6 or 2.5.5, and either using a directory or mounted ISO as the source. I just cannot get it to work.

The problems you have experienced are very rare. You are using muxman .014g - make sure you have selected the correct muxman version in the VIP settings. What version of HC are you using? To confirm that the settings are correct, set to use original assets (under encoder options) - this will stop the encoding to rule that out as a problem. 'Something went wrong' indicates a muxman error - which is very rare. post the muxman.log file

Well the problem is in the middle... to be more explicit, If I just let numenu do everything demux, encode and reauthor everything is fine, but, for example, If I don,t like the result and I wish to increase the bitrate in one or more video, than muxman fails, this appen with scenaid to.

Zeul
17th December 2005, 09:15
the bitrate is calculated to be the maximum allowed when the audio is taken into account. Tme max allowed for vide and audio is 9800. So if the audio was 448 then the video max would be 9352. To improve the video adjust the average bitrate NOT the max. This can be done easily by entering the encoder options screen and alter the average bitrate. If you are re-running numenu then just reopen the recovery.log (see the help file) and that will start numenu from the encoding point again - with the new bitrate.

I always use muxman and I hardly ever have problems. Not the last few months at least.
TJeR
17th December 2005, 10:47
Well of course I dont change the maximum bitrate but just the avarage. If I modify the avarage bitrate from numenu setting, and numenu applies this setting for any video, everything works fine, but if I just re-encode separetly some video with a different avarage bitrate muxman is not able to recreate the vobs and everything.
To do that I always do a first complete numenu run, than I check the quality of any single video, reencode some with a diffrent bitrate (this is the only thing that really change aspect ratio and other things are the same, than run numenu again, use the recovery function to do muxman job only, and than it fails ..... something with scenaid... again alwys, at the first run muxman does its job perfectly. it is when a try to remux again that it fails....

Received the "something went wrong" error while doing R1 of "The Work of Director Mark Romanek", report files sent. The menu is almost 700MB.
Zeul
29th December 2005, 11:12
Looks like muxman failed on vobid #7 due to excessive bitrate. There is a chance that the audio for that vobid is not the same as the rest (256). If it were more or the video spiked above the max set (9544) then that might cause the error. Try re-encoding that video segment with a lower max and then use recovery console to start from the mux stage.
wfn1
29th December 2005, 16:32
I'll give it another shot tonight.
I do have "DVD-Compliant" checked in NM4U under encoder settings because I had similar issues on other DVDs. Muxman actually reported those as excessive bitrate errors in the past and checking that DVD-compliant box took care of the issues before but apparently not this time.
wfn1

Zeul,
set the max to 8500 and still got the error, you want files?
Zeul
30th December 2005, 11:15
I'm not sure on this one. The mxp file is fine, so it must be an asset problem. As a test try this:
in the mxp file for vobid#7 remove the audio play information. Run the recovery console again, BUT under Recovery options there is a setting 'Disable muxman script creation'. Run the recovery console from muxing again, but this time numenu will not create any new scripts. If the error is not now present then there is definatley a problem with either the video or audio bitrates. As a sidenote, try dropping the video & audio into muxman manually and see what happens with a mux - with all the default values.
wfn1
30th December 2005, 15:23
Zeul,
When I dropped the bitrate to 8500, the asset that errored out was actually #8. So #7 goes through now. If I do video and audio for #8 manually in muxman it gives me the excessive bitrate error. If I do video by itself it goes through fine. What I can't understand is why it was asset #7 and now it's 8. Thanks.
Zeul
30th December 2005, 18:08
It suggests that there were several files that were a problem. Numenu checks each mux in order, so, if #7 failed we wouldn't know whether #8 was a problem or not. I don't understand why the max bitrate should be dropped that low though.
Are you using CCE? I have heard that sometimes CCE spikes above the max given.

Hi there!
I'm currently having trouble with NuMenu4U. On various R2 DVDs (different protection types) the programm errors out when starting the Muxman process (current free version).
Error message is "Something went wrong. Aborting". As mentioned a few post earlier, i'm aware, that this is some kind of Muxman error. I re-installed all tools, but i didn't cure the problem. The strange thing is, that NuMenu4U was working for quite some time without any problems. I'm attaching the muxman.log file of the mxp file, where the error occurs, so that maybe this error can be sorted out. The disc is the R2 Version of "Fistful of Dollars".
Little update: i tried it again without stripping any assets and it did work without problems.
Anyway: great tool and thanks for all the work, that is put into it.

@Zeul, Influenza:
The initial assumption that assets in vobid#7 are damaged is not correct. I tried multiplexing the original demuxed assets with muxman and they work just fine while the ones I encoded with CCE would error out every time. In my attemps to find the culprit I installed an older CCE version- 2.66.01.07 which exhibited the same behavior as CCE 2.70 and also Procoder 2.04/eclPro .52 which I could not make to work at all.
To make the long story short, the problem only occurs when multipass VBR is used in CCE. If I use OPV or CBR the whole process goes through smoothly. I'm happy with the fact that I can reduce a 700MB menu down to 250MB but I'm still curious as to what it is that gets broken in multipass... Anyone heard of anything alike?

It appears that dvd decrypter is not installed - i parse the version to confirm that dvddec version installed will work - however, if the version = "" due to dvd dec not being there i can see where the error would have occured. Corrected now.
@slipgun
That normally occurs when numenu has told dvd2avi to open a file - but it doesn't exist. I thought i had covered every contingency - guess not :( Shoot me the logfile please.
@Turisoft
Is this on one particular disc or on several?
@wfn1
Never heard of that before. After double checking the ecl file you sent me the max is correct. All i can think is that numenu didn't recognise the cce version correctly and as such some paramaters in the ecl were incorrect for your version. To confirm this open up one of the ecl files manually in cce and then check what has been written as max bitrate. You could always save and then compare the 2 ecl files.
@HolyChain
I still haven't received the files.

right now i'm only using cce 2.70.01.02 to avoid any unnecessary complications. all parameters are identical for that particular vobid and the max is always 9544. i think we have a cce related issue here so it's safe to say that not much can be done on your end.

Hi!
I have a problem with MenuIfoUpdate: the error message is Run-time error '53' - File not found.
First, there was a problem, with Scenarist script file, somehow one of the menu video track, has been imported as a slide show. When I tried to compile, Scenarist sad that the bitrate for a slide show (still picture) is too high. I corrected the script, so Scenarist imported now the video track correct, and the compile was successfull.
But after that, I run the UpdateMenuIfo, which gave back the error message above. This is the bat file:

I:\Menu\Batch_1\0\AUDIO_TS\
I:\Menu\Batch_1\0\VIDEO_TS\with Scenarist made ifos, bups, vobs
I:\Menu\Batch_1\mux_data\
I:\Menu\Batch_1\ScenaristScript30_1 Cache\
I:\Menu\Batch_1\ScenaristScript30_1 Cache\Encoded Files\
I:\Menu\D_VIDEO_TS\with many directories which made by Numenu of course
I:\Menu\D_VTS_01_0\
I:\Menu\VIDEO_TS\ this is empty
So I would like to know, which file or directory isn't on his place? How can I achive, that MenuIfoUpdate do one's work.
Very interesting, that if I choose numenu4u to work (I wanted to try), with original m2v (so without encoding), and leave scenarist to import then compile the menu, update_menu_ifo.bat gives no error, everything goes right. Of course, when numenu writes, that Creating scenarist script, after that i overwrite this script with my own, which is corrected (because of the fault of wrong import).
Sorry for my english, i learned it long-ago.

The only reason for that error would be either the original ifos are not in the location specified or that the new scenarist files do not exist.
Th files that should exist are video_ts.ifo & video_ts.vob & vts_01_0.ifo & vts_01_0.vob in both directories.

What is the location, which MenuIfoUpdate check for the new scenarist files?
In this case, when my Update_Menu_Ifo.bat is?
"C:\Program Files\NuMenu4U\MenuIfoUpdate.exe" -batch_1 -input_I:\Tiesto\DVD_1\VIDEO_TS.IFO -root_I:\Menu
"C:\Program Files\NuMenu4U\MenuIfoUpdate.exe" -batch_1 -input_I:\Tiesto\DVD_1\VTS_01_0.IFO -root_I:\Menu
I have the new scenarist files in I:\Menu\Batch_1\0\VIDEO_TS\ dir.
The original files have not been moved or anithing else...
I resolved the problem actually, and with another dvd there isn't problem. But it is a bit weird.
I begun anyway to translate the language file to hungarian. It's so 40% ready :)

Hi Zeul...
I am not using your beautiful application on a systematic way, so forgive me if I am missing something obvious...
Anyway, when using NuMenu4u, I have been always happy with your last build 2.0.25...
...Until now, when facing with Spiderman R2 (the title was released something about 1 year ago or more...).
NuMenu launches Scenarist, which arrives up to the complete import of the menu scenario, after a while; then as soon as the muxing phase start, Scenarist stops with a brute error due to some too short timing among some highlights...
By doing some little search I realised that you did some specific improvement in NuMenu, exactely for coping with the complex usage of the highlights in this title...
So I suppose you have the title available to carry out some checks...
Please consider the issue is not urgent at all, and I would not steal your time from the beautiful development work you are doing with DvdPlanner...
Anyway, tell me if you need further information on the subject...
Cheers,
SD

:thanks:
I will report back on the out comings...

Edit: everything seems OK!!! I mean, the usage of multiple mxp scripts allows to properly rehauthor the title... I have to say the life, as a new VIP member of NuMenu4U, is much, much easier now... Your application, with the support of PgcDemux and MuxMan is now completely integrated with my set of DVD tools...
OK! I am really happy with this situation, so let me stop this bla, bla... It's time for me to push the "donate" button: even being late, I see your work need to be rewarded...
Bye!

Hello and thanks for this great app ;)
Anyway, I noticed little bug that crashes the program..
If the default destination drive points to a non-existant partition, the prog will give an error and exit immediately...

When I start numenu4u I immediately get this error:
Procedure Name: sListAllDrives
Module Name: GlobalFunctions
Error Number: 380
Error Description: Invalid property value
Error Source: Project1
Error Line: 42
Call Stack:
sListAllDrives --> GlobalFunctions
Form_Activate --> MainForm
When I click OK the program closes itself.

Going back over my NTSC<->PAL guide
http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=672641
to try and refine it a bit I noticed that if a menu PGC is a dummy and also has a menu attribute to it such as Angle, PTT, Subpicture or Audio then when it compiles the DVD the PGC's go out of order which really messes up the navigation on the DVD. This seems to be because no actual dummy track is asigned to the PGC.
This is fixed manually by giving the PGC a dummy track and then remuxing it.
Any chance that dummy menu PGC's can be assigned dummy tracks automatically???

Empty PGCs with just a commandtable is perfectly legal so there is no need to add a dummy track

Where it may be perfectly within DVD spec my point is that scenarist doesn't seem to recompile the project correctly (although it looks fine in the scenario editor) as the menus go out of order because their Cell ID's seem to get swapped if a dummy track isn't assigned to the empty PGC which is labelled as Angle, PTT, Subpicture or Audio.
If the menu cell ID's change then you can end up with a non-working menu system.
My test DVD for this was The Hills Have Eyes R1 NTSC
Unfortunately I no longer have the source DVD to post some screens of what happens...
