lastest DVD43 (http://www.dvd43.com) 3.5 now removes ARcoSS protection,it's just like AnyDVD but it's free.

I just noticed as well. I have waiting for a decent free upgrade from v1.4.

also paraphrasing Captain Red (author of dvd43)

DVD43 works differently than AnyDVD and RegionFree. Those two handle bad sectors by replacing them with dummy data, instead of removing the bad data. The end result, some ARccOS titles will play with a black screen for ten minutes - DVD43 works around this.

Nice news, thanks for the details :D

mrbass, does the latest DVD43 really get rid of Macrovision as well, (there is a statement that it does on your site - great site by the way) I can see nothing about this at www.dvd43.com

It doesn't get rid of macrovision but, that doesn't matter to me. I use Shrink with it which does get rid of it.

It is one benefit AnyDVD has over DVD43 as that does remove macrovision.

I also wonder if it detects and removes dummy VTS files. E.g. VIDEO_TS.IFO has "Number of Title Sets" at actual 8 but viewing ripped files in File Manager, the Title Set count is higher.

The author 'Captain Red' said it now removes macrovision protection also if you right click on dvd43 it says 'Remove Analogue Video Copy protection' so I believe the 3.5 version does. I know previous versions didn't however.

Here's another tidbit which I didn't know but it's all legit. Not sure much how I can say so to sum it up basically there was another version that was being sold which had a few new features. Anyway it didn't techinically quite work out. So there was never a scam or what have you for version 2.5. Anway the 3.5 version is free and has much improved over 1.4 and 2.5.

@2Cool he says he doesn't just replace the errors with dummy data but has a workaround so it doesn't use crap space and like he says. Honestly I don't really know the answer though....no time to test it out extensively. Can't want to try it though with dvdshrink on an ARcoSS title though.

I didn't know that about the macrovision and you are right.

I have already tried it on RE2 R2 with ARcoSS and it lets Shrink to read the disc perfectly without the need for DVD Decrypter/VOB Blanker.

The macrovision part of AnyDVD is no longer a advantge over DVD43. I probably stop using it for a while and see if DVD43 can replace it full time.

Version 3.5.2 has been released.

I suggest to install over the top of the previous version to make it work. When I uninstalled the old version, I got a driver error on program startup.

Previous version may have detected ARcoSS when in fact it wasn't present. DVD43 3.5.2 corrects this.

yes I did edit my message sorry. I just checked my mail from dvd43 author and he sent me the link to 3.5.1...that's why I said you are mistaken blah blah blah...when in fact I was mistaken...sorry nwg.

It is version 3.5.2.133.

It has Gothika support now.

MrBass. Did you just edit your message? I am sure it was different when I replied.

I have AnyDVD and find it useful, especially the fact that it allows me to play region 1 discs in my region 2 computer drive.

Does anyone know if DVD43 does the same. ie. Will it allow a different region disc to be played in a region 2 drive? I am asking since my brother wants a free program which will do this.

Thanks for the info.

Yes, it does. I also have AnyDVD but have been using DVD43 lately. I have a region 2 locked drive and a lot of region 1 DVD's.

Thanks for that info.

This will save my brother having to spend some money. Unfortunately it is too late for me as I bought AnyDvd last year!

To be fair though, for the money I think AnyDvd is great as they update it regularly. The program has been improved loads since I first got it.

Looks like DVD43 has caught up a lot now. I used it ages ago and it was very basic. Will be interesting to try it on my brothers pc later this week.

It has always allowed me to switch regions since the old 1.4 version. This new one has the macrovision and CD protection removal.

AnyDVD still has the fancy things like removing adverts and trailers, PC Friendly disable (I like that one a lot) and PUO's.

Do these new versions still require Patin-Couffin to be installed?

Cheers

I don't have The Forgotton. Are you using v3.5.2?

marcor
23rd February 2005, 16:55
yes i used 3.5.2. now i have done some tests. i have used anydvd and dvd2one. anydvd says : 'Found & removed 1 bad sector protections!' , but i can't rip the movie to my hd. then i configure dvd2one as 'movie-only' and de-select cells 1-6 (cells 1-4 and 6 are 0mb)(cell 5 is 31mb and in my opinion the troublemaker). now dvd2one ripped the movie to my hd. plays on my sa without trouble. without this "workaround" i could't get the movie on my hd. anyone else trouble with The Forgotten ?

greetings marcor

Anyone who knows if there is a forum dedicated to the program - where you can get in contact with the author? :)

mrbass
7th March 2005, 22:57
I don't believe there is a forum for dvd43. The author emailed me otherwise I'd have no idea who he is. You can guess he is Chinese based on "Happy New Year" in February found in the release notes. I could forward whatever to him just PM me then he can contact you via email if he wishes to.

Thanks for the reply! :)

No - I was just curious if there was a forum for that program.

I had the same problem, ripped to my HD using DVD Decryptor - then used Shrink on it, worked like a charm

I copied the forgotten with DVD shrink. I set my decrypting drive to pio mode and I didn't have any problems with it.

Just as a note.

The latest version 3.5.3 still don't handle region code 2 DVDs with ARccOS.

Hi! :)

The only version I can find at that site is 'New version 3.5.3, May 05'.

Got any link to the 3.5.4 version?

Nice guide on 'Ubuntu Linux DVD Shrink, DVD Decrypter Guide'. :)

Yes I was curious if DVD Decrypter 3.5.4.0 handles ARccOS region 2 DVDs since DVD43 3.5.3 supposedly doesn't. Sorry for the confusion.

Yes, DVD Decrypter 3.5.4.0 works. Just DVD43Free that don't.
