I have a DVR 921 from Dish Network. As we know capture cards currently only have s-video for the best option for video in. The DVR 921 will downconvert any Hi Definition signal to 480i & that is how I watch the Hi Definition channels. Although I can't say much for the quality on the SD channels the downconverted Hi Definition channels are excellent except for TNT. If one switches to anything above 480i the DVR 921 only sends those signals out the component or DVI output, so you don't get a picture on those modes. Getting to my question "In Focus" sells a Component Video to S-Video or S-Video to Component Video & they state "Compatible with 480i signals; not for use with progressive signals." If I were to purchase this adapter would it allow me to watch the 480p,720p or 1080i signal via the s-video? And would it damage anything?
My next question is whenever I capture off the downconverted Hi Definition signal (480i) it is displayed letterbox 16 x 9, but the captures are always 4x3 why is this? Any help would greatly be appreciated.

Thanks,
Will

Well, they say it converts 480i component to 480i S-Video. Isn't that clear enough?

Your comment doesn't answer my question at all.

I'll try again.

The converter accepts only 480i component. You cannot connect 480p, 720p, or 1080i component to it. If you let your DVR 921 output at 480i component, then you can use it.

Let me try and explain I already get 480i downconverted through the s-video; but the DVR unit will send out a 480p,720p or 1080i out of the component of course & all I have to do is enable it in the menu, so something would be sent out whether it would work who knows. The cable isnt a converter merely a patch type of cable here is a link take a look at it http://store.infocus.com/escalate/store/DetailPage?pls=infocus&bc=infocus&pc=SP-VIDEO-ADPT&clist=&ret=&pls5catname=&tab=desc

I've told you twice that it won't work.

It won't work.

Are you asking why?

Possibly since progressive can be sent via s-video, 480p from DBS via s-video might be possibly. Unfortunately I really don’t know so I posted the query. That is about the best I can tell you Richard.

Correction what I meant to say there Dick was progressive can be sent through s-video on DVD players so It may be possible on DBS via s-video using this adaptor.

Hey Dick. You better edit out that profanity before someone less tolerant than me strikes you.
