View Full Version : Protection or Bad Authoring

Please look at this PGC from IFOUpdate. When I tried to rebuild it, the subtitle file had NEGATIVE time for the first subs (type mismatch error 13 in Scenaid, but it wasn't Scenaid fault) , and the audio was out of synch, curiously with a different delay.

When you play the original disc, it jumps 15s at the begining. I tried to correct delays manually: figured the subs delay, but could not figure the exact audio delay, so I dropped the project.

Has anybody seen this before. Is this a protection or bad authoring.

i think you probably have a slideshow in the first vobid of the PGC. this has a total length of 15s (450 frames). jumping 15s goes straigt to chapter 31 (the movie start). To author correctly this will need to be authored by cell. unfortunately this is not supported by scenaid yet (it will be though). The main issue is that vob2 needs cell processing, 3 & 4 need vob processing. The only way i can think of is to process by vobid initially, then demux vobid 2 by cell. If this is a non-bov then its just a matter of dropping each demuxed cell into scenarist to create its own track, then the same for vobid 3 & 4. create the chapter points and then the scenario. It might be worth trying dif4u in vobid mode, and let scenaid build it. you will have to modify as i suggest. If this is a bov (probably a menu slideshow) then you will have to recreate all the buttons too (phew...) At least the audio will all be in synch, if done by vobid.

This is not easy and will require a lot of knowledge of scenarist. But what an achievement afterwards.

Also checkout this vobid (2). Does it ever get played? If not then things are a lot easier. Process by vobid, then in scenarist recreate vobid 2 track with no chapter points, and alter the scenario to remove the cells from vobid2, starting from cell2 onwards. Vobid 2 then becomes a single cell, which scenarist can handle.

The other possiblity is the new Sony protection....

more and more disks are cropping up w/ this and currently vsrip has a hard time w/ them....

I'm in the process of fixing this

Well I don't know about anyone else, but I'm interested to know the name + region of this film!

Does DVD Decrypter 3.5.2.0 detect any 'structure protection' when you go to rip the disc with it? If so, I'd really like you to email me the IFO files.

I am honestly overwhelmed at having my simple question answered by three masters D3s7, Zeul and Lightning.

Lightning: Movie is Giant (1956) 2 Disc Special Edition R1 . The main movie comes in a flipper, each side DL. The curious thing is that only side 2 has this weird authoring. And yes, DVD Decrypter warns about possible structure prtection (30 Areas Have been marked as suspect).

Zeul,
The audio delay was not 15s, which is what I thought, it was around there but not 15s (I tried that). I am sorry but I do not know how to check if VOBID 2 is referenced or not. But I am attaching the IFO you and Lightning to check, and find out yourselves.

With more patience I would travel the roads you suggest, but I ended just copying main movie without compression (no processing), good enough compromise for this special case.

Please let us know if it is protection, just to know (I have a hunch it is)...

PS. The 2 ifos are rared and attached to this post as a zip file. However I do not know how to access them. I can email them to anyone interested.

yayita,
for future reference, all attachments require validation by a moderator, so it might take a little while after posting for it to show up.
anyway, they are approved now.
good luck

Seems onl;y the r1 guys are having fun :) So far I haven't come across any r2 disc with this new kind of 'protection'.

If anyone knows about a r2 title I'm interested of course, since I would like to analyse it ;)

Hopefully it will be sorted out really soon anyway.

As mentioned in DVD Decrypter's forum, the Resident Evil 2-Region 2 Disk, has this new kind of protection...

Yeah, weird one!

It plays cell 1 and then jumps to cell 31 and continues playing all cells after that.

It's kinda like ARccOS.

Do you get Dummy Sectors inserted when you rip all file in File mode? (You must have structure protection removal set to 'Normal' to test it.)

Lightning,

I decrypted whole disc, file mode, with check for Structure protection at normal, and no dummy sectors where inserted according to the log.

I repeated the excercise with check for Structure protection at aggressive, and the log warns about many dummy sectors inserted.

Can mail you the log if you want to see it.

No, that's fine thanks.

'Normal' mode was all I was interested in.

'Aggressive' should never really be used for fear of me getting my sums wrong and removing stuff you DO actually need! lol
