View Full Version : Having a problem with video bitrate when adding 2nd audio track

I'm having a problem with video bitrate when adding 2nd audio track.
Yesterday I downloaded and freshly installed DVD2SVCD 1.2.2 build 3. Using DVD2DVD mode with an Ifo file with Movie length 01:51:57 (6717 sec) and using Cd size 4350 (DVD+r) I get the following results:
Case 1:
audio track 1 AC3 256 kbps selected
audio track 2 MP2 160 kbps unselected
yields vbr_brate_avg 5050 kbps in cce conversion (as seen in CCE_Project_file.ecl)
Case 2:
audio track 1 AC3 256 kbps selected
audio track 2 MP2 160 kbps selected (both selected)
yields vbr_brate_avg 5121 kbps in cce conversion (as seen in CCE_Project_file.ecl)
Doesn't that appear to mean:
* Selecting audio stream 2 in addition to audio stream 1 cce starts conversion with higher avg bitrate for video. Shouldn't it be lower?
* Adding an additional audio track seems to provide more video bitrate. Can this be right? Shouldn't it consume its share out of the overall available bitrate (5403 kbps in my case)? (Un)surprisingly, the resulting DVD image is way to large and needs about 97% additional shrinking to fit on the 4350 MB DVD+R.
For Case 2 DVD2DVD-r 1.8.3 calculates 4988 kbps as anticipated avg bitrate and nicely fills the DVD.
Am I doing something wrong? Or, is there something wrong with DVD2SVCD?

...Am I doing something wrong?... Nobody else encounters that problem with too high video bitrate value when processing more than one audio track?
Nobody else needs/knows/wants to tell me a workaround?

Are you useing RoBa?
or
With what settings is this calculated? Multipass VBR?
Cela

Hi Manngo,
thank you for your interest.
I am using Tylo's Roba Plugin. I keep the original sound tracks. In DVD2SVCD ver. 1.2.2 build 3 I use the Audio option "Do not convert audio (use source audio)". In the Conversion tab I select the Ifo, then the audio track(s). Then I let it run and watch the RoBa log window up to the "Calculations" section. There I observe the "video_br".
Here is another example:

"D2S video calc: 5121 kbps" is what me concerns. It seems much too high. I cannot reproduce that result:
01:52:34 (168862 frames, 25 fps) ~ 6754 sec.
4350 MB or 4.561.305.600 Bytes devided by 6754 sec yield 5403 kbps as overall bitrate to cover video and audio. 256+160=416 kbps are needed for audio, leaving 4987 kbps for video. For the same case DVD2DVD-r calculates 4871 kbps.
How can the bitrate calculation be affected by the Video Encoding Mode? Isn't bitrate simply (kilo)bits per second? And avg bitrate equal to Cd size in (kilo)bits divided by the runtime in seconds?
I am stuck. Need some advice.

But, if you can't reproduce this error don't worry about it. Unfortunately, this kind of error occurs everytime when the second audio track is involved, when I select the second audio track (in the second line) in DVD2SVCD's Conversion tab:
Case 1:

What can cause this error?
Does anybody use a second audio track successfully?

Thanks, Manngo!
You are a lucky man.
There must be a reason why it works for you and why it does not work for me.
What do you suggest, I should do?
Make a complete reinstall of DVD2SVCD and plugins?
Use the settings according which guide?
First of all, I will try the settings according to your log.
Many thanks. It is so motivating to see a working example!

@Manngo
Again, thank you very much for your help. You got me going.
I made some tests on the computer with DVd2SVCD 1.1.2 B3 and got some inconsistent results: ac3+mp2 selection gets a different result than the mp2+ac3 selection. Why can it depend on selection order, on what stram gets audio index 1 or 2?
-----------Audio-----------------Audio---
-----------Index 1---------------Index 2-
160 kbps mp2 (0xC1) + 448 kbps ac3 (0x80) ... ok ?
448 kbps ac3 (0x80) + 160 kbps mp2 (0xC1) ... wrong !
---------------------------------------------------
(Unfortunately, ac3 + mp2 is the 'natural' selection order.)
Also the value of AudioSectors for the ac3+mp2 selection seems inconsitent when compared with the mp2+ac3, mp2_only, ac3_only selections.
This morning I realized that there may be a problem with the reference to AviSynth on my computers:
The computer where I made a complete reinstallation of D2S 1.2.2 B3
references via registry AviSynth2.5, the other computer where I have D2S 1.1.2 B3 installed references AviSynth2.
I will reinstall the older computer too, then rerun the tests and then post the results.
Thus I withdraw the original post.
An FAQ question: How does the perfect D2S 1.2.2 B3 installation look like? How can I assure that my installation is correct? Registry settings, other system environment? etc.
P.S.
I remember, ages ago there seemed to be a problem with CCE crashing after some hours of work. It ruined the nerves of the stongest dogs. At the end it turned out, it was not CCE but a flaw in the Avisynth version D2S used. Probably it is something like that with my problem.
Cela
19th February 2005, 09:46
Last night I completely de- and reinstalled D2S. There I made the following observation: D2S installation installs "C:\Programme\AviSynth2.5" and A"C:\Programme\DVD2SVCD\AviSynt2.5 Plugins" but does _not_ update the registry pointer to its own Plugins directory. Something like
REGEDIT4
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Avisynth]
"plugindir2_5"="C:\\Programme\\DVD2DVD-R\\Avisynth\\plugins"
is _not_ executed and the key "plugindir2_5" still points to whatever it contained before. I manually corrected it to point to DVD2SVCD's Avisynth\plugins.
The preliminary conclusion from my test is:
DVD2SVCD and Tylo's RoBa perform perfectly. :)
(I still get the earlier reported order dependant results for audio selection ac3+mp2 and mp2+ac3, though.)
I guess there are some troubles with the ac3 audio files  which I get in the DVB capture procedure: capture Satellite TV DVB with wtvp227_beta, demux pva and raw streams with ProjectX 0.81.9, cut mpv, mpa and ac3 with Mpeg2Schnitt06l/m, produce VIDEO_TS with IfoEdit, attach the IFO form IfoEdit's VIDEO_TS to DVD-lab Pro and add a nice menu.
In the last months some TV componies (ORF, ZDF, PRO7, ...) started to improve the quality (video bitrate) of some of their transmissions. So the captured material, which earlier easily fitted on a single DVD+R, now tends to become oversized. Besides DVDShrink DVD2SVCD/RoBa would be an excellent tool to downsize the material while keeping most of its improved quality. ;)

These are my final test results.
-Audio-----Audio--------Video------------------------
-Index 1---Index 2- ... Bitrate
160(0xC1)+000(0x80) ... 4851 kbps that's ok (mp2 only)
448(0x80)+000(0xC1) ... 4560 kbps that's ok (ac3 only)
-----------------------------------------------------
both audio tracks selected: ac3+mp2, mp2+ac3 -> different results!
160(0xC1)+448(0x80) ... 4404 kbps that's ok
448(0x80)+160(0xC1) ... 4851 kbps <<< error <<<--- ???
same value as mp2 only !!! ac3 is neglected !!!
-----------------------------------------------------
Isn't this strange ?
Shouln't both cases have the same video bitrate ???
Why does it matter which one is first ???
Why is in the ac3+mp2 case only mp2 counted and ac3 neglected ???
Could that be the difference which causes the error?
DVD source has IDs 0x80 and 0x81 and there is no problem.
My DVB source has IDs 0x80 and 0xC1 and has that problem?
For your analysis I append the D2SRoBa and dvd2svcd logs:
Case 1: 448(0x80)+160(0xC1) ... 4851 kbps <<< error <<<--- ???
