MediaInfo 0.5 - Reading information about media files

Main features :
Read many video and audio file formats

Main available information :
General : title, author, director, album, track number, date, duration...
Video : codec, aspect, fps, bitrate...
Audio : codec, sample rate, channels, language, bitrate...
Text : language of subtitle
Chapters : count of chapters, list of chapters

Examples of supported formats :
Video : MKV, OGM, AVI, MPEG1, MPEG2, MPEG4, DVD
Audio : OGG, MP3, WAV, RA, AC3, DTS, AAC, M4A, AU, AIFF

There is also a command line version (for automation) and a DLL for third party developpers (MS Visual C++, MS C#, MS VB, MS J#, Borland C++ and Delphi examples are available)

MediaInfo is really nice :) For many many reasons :) Using cmd line here to output source stats at IRC when the source hits my ftp :rolleyes: Pretty nifty :D

Hey this is very nice :D

At last we have a tool that can read just about every stream in every container!

Seems like it can read what's inside the .MP4 container :)... but not .VOB :(

Please contact me and send me VOB (in menu : debug, header, for having 256 KB files only)
MediaInfo 0.5.1.1 should read it (stupid bug in other 0.5.x.x release, MPEG2/VOB were not correctly handled.)

Bug #1:

"Go to the website of a player for this file" button for first video stream wont open any webbrowser (examining XViD stream and status bar does show the right URL to the codec).

Using WinXP Pro SP2 // Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8b) Gecko/20050206 Firefox/1.0+ (stipe)


Bug #2:

Exporting text file (Custom format) from same XViD video stream misses 1 variable:
Aspect : 592 x 320 (1.850) at %fps% fps

Text in the popup box isn't centered vertically, nor horizontally. Looks weird. Layout related.

Language > Spanish >
Text in the middle (between 4 buttons on the top and tabs on the bottom) is still in English. Plus last tab on the bottom is still in English (rest are translated).

You can edit the text (preferences, custom, edit, Video), change %fps% with %FrameRate%

Programming option for positioning is set to screen center, same as main window :(.
It works at home (about box is in the center of screen).
So... I don't know how to manage this problem :(.
Not sure it will be corrected.

I don't speak spanish, so I took a old version of the translation file, which doesn't include all words.
Could you fill the language file (preferences, language, edit), and send me the file ./plugins/MediaInfo.Language.Español.csv?

Mpeg2 VOB files are pretty big... Surely you can test some of your own?

I've just performed another .VOB test... It seems MediaInfo v0.5.1.1 can detect MPA audio streams in VOB but not DolbyDigital (AC3) streams!

Thanks for sorting out the fixes and providing a new build so quickly.

With regard to the current GUI layout, you offer many layout styles. But I was wondering whether you have given any thought about releasing a version with a "Basic GUI"? Something like this maybe: -

You may not be aware, but when you generate encodes using one of NeroDigital's profiles, the encodes "properties" can be accessed via "Windows Explorer". Like this: -

But this is not my priority. My priorities :
1/ More export functions (automation...)
2/ More format support : better RM, better Matroska, DivX fusion, Hxxx, and so on...
3/ Automatic connexion to http://musicbrainz.org and http://www.imdb.com/ to have more "tag" information
4/ The "basic GUI", as you spoke
5/ Linux version

So, I will do 1, 2 & 3 before working on basic GUI.

Listing the Audio, Subtitles, Chapters etc information, like NeroDigital does would indeed be useful.

It would seem however, that NeroDigital does not appear to make much use of MetaData information that can also be stored within the container although this might change in the future). All of which your application can already reveal!

And some time ago I noticed that dBpowerAMP could reveal even more information about the audio element (ie: the encoding tool and the file extension): -

I would like to do as dBpowerAMP or Nero, but with every kind of file.
Problem : I don't use to program with Win32 API, so this is difficult for me.
But I will succeed ;-)

In Theory, if dbPowerAMP can give, I can ;-).
But for MP4, I don't extract Tool, because I don't have file with tags to test.
So you can send me your file example, I will adapt MediaInfo to read all tags.

Note that version numbers will not be the same between GUI and Command line (because, a bug correction in the GUI should need new version, but no impact on the Cmd version!)
Release dates are more useful.

I use Mp4v2 library (from FAAC project), and it says LC for both :( (stream n°4 and n°5 in the file. text output of mp4v2 is exactly :
- 4\taudio\tMPEG-4 AAC LC, 50.131 secs, 63 kbps, 44100 Hz
- 5\taudio\tMPEG-4 AAC LC, 50.176 secs, 63 kbps, 24000 Hz\n

Are you sure LS track is realy encoded in LE?

For subtitles, MediaInfo doesn't support them yet, I will work on it, now I have one file with subs ;-)
