Hi dears,
I own a relatively new P4(3ghz) system, which want to cool as silently as possible.
Unfortunately the Thermalright XP120 would not fit on my Board (Abit AI7). So I need your help guys. All Ideas are welcom. Even aPointer to good and recent Comparison would be great. Thank you very much in advance. :-)

If you have heard of the XP120 from thermalright you have probably heard of the XP90 but I thought I'd mention it anyway as it is a really capable and resonably priced cooler. It is identical to the XP120 just a bit smaller. Otherwise you might find something interesting at the cooling section over at http://www.silentpcreview.com/. Their testing methods are really reliable. Also their recommended (http://www.silentpcreview.com/section10.html) heatsinks represent some of the best quiet coolers.

I have a 3.0GHz P4 CPU overclocked to 3.25GHz after having my ears ring after using my computer I decided to buy an after market cooler. I bought the Zalman CNPS7000-Cu. Ever since, my CPU runs not only quieter, but cooler as well!! The best air coolers that I know of are the zalman 7000 series. There are a few other extreme air coolers that knock off just a few more degrees, but they are quite loud.
There are four MAIN versions.... from normal to best:
CNPS7000-AlCu
CNPS7700-AlCu
CNPS7000-Cu
CNPS7700-Cu

I suggest going all copper as this will give you the highest heat removal. The only problems you might encounter will be wether these heatsinks can fit on your motherboard and problems resulting from hauling your PC around with so much mass mounted on your CPU. If you, like most others, do not move your computer often and this heat sink fits your motherboard, I have NO doubt these heatsinks will please you.
May I also suggest using arctic silver 5 thermal compound. Used with.... well any heatsink realy ...these heatsinks, heat and noise will be a non issue.

I have P4 3.2 Prescott @ 3.52 regularly abused by encoding with a Zalman CNPS7000-Cu cooler. If it fits your Mobo its a very effective quiet cooler. :)

I bought a Coolermaster Hyper 6, which works very well cooling the cpu. However, in order to no to get to high temps around the socket I had to install a slow runnng 40mm fan below the main cpu fan.
Now, when you close the case you don't hear a thing. but lets wait for the summer .... :-/

oh okay... had to look this one up, I forgot what it looked like. So you use the 40mm fan blowing across the bottom fins and 80mm across the heatpipe fins... intriguing! That is not a bad heat sink either, how much was it and where did you buy it. (if you don't mind me asking)
