I haven't look into it that much, but with DX9 and a fairly new graphics card you can get hardware accelerated deinterlacing that is quite nice.
The quality of the deinterlacing depends on the card and driver, but still, it would be nice to have such a deinterlacing filter for use with AVISynth. Does one exist today? Is it at all possible?
