Is there any reason to use AC3Filter if ffdshow is installed? Does it provided an additional functions?
I ask because ffdshow has active development, AC3Filter seems dead (following the OSS source arguments.)

I've had problems with 5.1 AC3 in AVI with ffdshow until recently (on both NForce2 and Nforce3 rigs - using analogue 5.1 output on both). Now suddenly (perhaps it's the ffdshow version), 5.1 seems to be working (at least I get audio on the center channel, I haven't checked the rear channels yet).
But that mainly was my reason for using AC3filter instead of ffdshow to decode audio.

AC3Filter is far from dead as you can also read from the AC3Filter thread here. People are testing an internal beta version at the moment.
