View Full Version : Sizing Issue with DVD-RB v0.75 & QuEnc v0.59b2

:( I recently completed a backup of the Region2 movie "Ginger Snaps Back". I was using DVD-RB v0.75 and QuEnc v0.59b2. After it the backup was complete the size of the resulting file was 3.61Gb in size.

I retested the movie using DVD-DB v0.72 & QuEnc v0.54 and the resulting file size was 4.31Gb.

The DVD is about 6.40Gb in size with about 1.5Gb of extras. During the rebuild I stole 33% from the extras. When I have backed up a larger DVD (ie 7.5Gb) the resulting file size have been about the same no matter what version of DVD-RB/QnEnc I was using.

Am I correct in assuming the latest versions of DVD-DB will not work with v0.54 of QuEnc?

I imagine it is a typo, as the size problem you had was with QuEnc 0.59, not 0.54.

Regarding your question, it has been reports of problems with the lates versions of QuEnc and RB, although jdoobs indicated it has imroved compatibility in version 0.73 of RB

It wasn't a typo, if you try and use QuEnc v0.54 with DVD-RB v.73 you get an error.
I assume the switch that is used to make RB more compatible with the newer versions of QuEnc causes the error on the older versions.

Possibly the new command line options added to make the later versions work might be rejected by 0.54?

since i made QuEnc 0.54 with its version number though it should be easy to pick that its being used and only use the old command line options etc.

Good point. I've just changed it so it will not add the "-mpeg2mux" command line option in 0.54. It should be alright in DVD-RB v0.76.

@ajssss - Please post if you try 0.76 with QuEnc 0.54. I just ran into this problem with 0.76 and QuEnc 0.59b2, but had started backing up something else before I noticed that the first backup was undersized. When the new backup completes, I'll go ahead and test with 0.54 to see if that makes a difference, unless I read that someone else has beaten me to it.

(Details on my attempt are in the thread, First attempt with 0.76 resulted in undersized movie (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=89965).)

Using QuEnc 0.54 resolved the problem for me. (Had to use Rebuilder 0.76, which knows to not pass the -mpeg2mux parameter to 0.54.)

Copious details in the thread mentioned in my previous post.

Thanks lamster, this is my experience as will. I will be sticking with QuEnc v.54 for the time being.
