right
so right after I instaled firefox
by IE6 desides it wants to quits and it b0rkes itself
so I'm stuck with getting little pop-up windows saying it can;t do this or that becuase Ie6 can not be open
well
I went to the m$ homepage to get Ie6 to reinstall it
and just what happens?
I'm redirceted to the JAPANESE homepage
so I finaly findh te right link and dl hte english installer
and low and behold
I can't reinstall IE6 it gives me an error saying it detected a newverstion of IE6 and can;t continue
so I remmber that I read somewhere that ti;s a registry switch
so I go on a big hunt and find the right key
local > s/w > m$ > active setup > installed componets > 898....
so I change that
reset
and it still gives me this error
so I went looking again and find hte same thing
but this time I find that thats for sp1 only
but I'm running sp2
and reinstalling windows won;t work
because I only have hte sp1 disk that I got when i bought the comp
so I'm basicly shafted all because m$ intergared IE6 into it;s rather shitty os
I also found this on hte m4 page that tells me how to reinstall on sp1 but not sp2
'by defualt IE^ is intergrated into window and can not be removed although it can be disabled'
thats para pharsed a bit but not much I find htat statment destribing and illegal
and htat also doesn;t help me out much even though that was from m$;s support page
so I come hte best experts I know of
Doom9
I have yet to see a problem you guys can't fix
so
the only I dea I have on reinstalling IE6 is to get a hex editor and chance hte verstion number on hte IE6 installer
I;ve heard of someone doing htat before so it;s my only lead
any help would be much appericated because I can;t even open up msn with error
or even go to m$;s hompage withouit it being in Japanese
thanks in advance

You only have the Service Pack 1 disc? Are you sure it hasnt also got Windows XP on it? If your unsure just go onto the CD and see how much room is used on it. XP Service Pack 1 will only take up 100 - 200 meg by itself, but a full Windows XP install disc will be 600+ meg.

What Neuron2 says will be your best option but if you cant solve this. Or call some friendly computer lovers to give you a hand!

If you ever do sort those problems out, you can remove the IE parts of Windows XP, among other parts using utilities such as nLite (http://nuhi.msfn.org/).

edit: forgot to add a line

If you have a valid (ie. REAL) XP serial, ring Microsoft. Its not completely impossible that they will send a replacement CD out.

Wish i could help you with the Recovery Console thing, i personally am forced to use Windows 98SE on my personal computer.
