Hi,
How can I join together the two side of an old DVD of mine in a single side DVD?
I will like to have just one audio stream and the full list of chapters, but the main impact is how to join the two side.
Tnx for replying,
Stranger.

The classic way is to use this Joining double sided DVDs guide (http://ifoedit.wh.fr0zen.com/joinclip.html#joindbl). There is a way to do it with VobBlanker but at the moment, I'm at work so hopefully, someone like jsoto will come around to tell you how. It has something to with "ExtAllMult" button in Cell List dialog. You can then use the other VOBedit guide, joining clips, mentioned on the same page.

guides are your league, 2COOL.
I believe Stranger can wait... he'll get a better prize.

Another way to do this would be in DVD Shrink - see http://www.dvdshrink.info/compilation.php

Is your side 2 a continuation of side 1?

@2COOL - what's all this abt ExtAllMult? Never figured out what that was about.
Only in the context of this thread - don't want to hijack it

Regards In cell list, it suppose to extract ALL cells and demux them, into a folder of your choice, and rename as VTS_01_001.VOB and on. By default, the starting VOB starts at VTS_01_001.VOB. If you have another PGC to join with these folders and you want to append at VTS_01_020.VOB, just enter that when it comes to saving the file in same folder. It will then begin appending and not overwriting VTS_01_001.VOB. This only works with 1.6.0.4

Hi,
I'm going to come with a few guide which I didn't test (sure 2COOL can elaborate it a little more...)
How to join two PGCs in only one, keeping the total number of chapters
- Extract the PGCs with PGCDemux, making one VOB file per PGC.
- Concatenate both PGCs, moving the VOB files to the same folder and changing their names to:
VTS_01_1.VOB and VTS_01_2.VOB
- Open the first DVD in AddChapter. Add as many chapters as Cells has the second PGCs. You can do it in one click.
- Change with VIDChanger the VID/CID of the new added Cells. The best option is to use two VIDs (one per original PGC) and different CIDs. You have to do this cell by cell, but because they are blanked ones it will take one moment.
- Open the DVD in VobBlanker. Replace the PGC1 (the one with the added chapters) with VTS_01_1.VOB
- Manually modify the cell type in PGC chain to 2888888288888, with "2" when the VID changes (from one PGC to the other one)
Take care:
- Streams (audio/subs) in both PGCs should be the same. If not, you have to demux and re mux the second one.

Yes, absolutely.
Side 2 is the second part of the movie.
The only difficult part (I think) is taking into account for chapters given the audio / sub streams should be the same.
I'm going to rip to HDD the two side just now; more info will follow.

Sigh...
Not too easy... :(
Following the list of the streams that are on both side of the DVD
0xE0 VIDEO
0x80 Audio AC3 / 6ch / English
0x81 Audio AC3 / 2ch / Français
0x82 Audio AC3 / 2ch / Italiano
0x20 Subtitle English [SP01: W]
0x21 Subtitle English [SP01: L]
0x22 Subtitle Nederlands [SP02: W]
0x23 Subtitle Nederlands [SP02: L]
0x24 Subtitle Portugues [SP03: W]
0x25 Subtitle Portugues [SP03: L]
0x26 Subtitle Français [SP04: W]
0x27 Subtitle Français [SP04: L]
0x28 Subtitle English [SP05: W]
0x29 Subtitle English [SP05: L]
but...
Only on side 1 (and not in side 2) I have other two streams, that are
0x2A Subtitle Français [SP06: W/L]
0x2B Subtitle Italiano [SP07: W/L]
Probably they are two forced subs, but now? Need to extend them in some way to have them present in "new" single side dvd?

@Stranger
Follow blutach dvdshrink indication. Believe me, it is the easiest way. Many of us here, like to do the things in the most complicate way....

jsoto, I'll give a try to shrink, but what about chapters?
And about the sub streams that are not present in the second side of the dvd?
Ups.... auto-reply for dummy question...
The sub stream probably is not present in the second side because it is not needed, :p so no problem with the shrink, just question about the chapter is still active
Tnx again for replying

I was pondering yesterday on doing it with VobBlanker when I decided it's best to do it with DVD Shrink. By doing so, you don't have the need to manually correct the chapters at the end. DVD Shrink retains it.

One thing that has always PMO about the DVD Shrink way of going about combining a flipper is that it actually produces 2 titles. You will get a break between titles, a little longer than a regular layer break. It can be quite annoying.
So, many folks - myself included - like to use the "VobEdit method" already suggested by 2COOL in his first post in this thread.
As usual - ease of making it happen = DVD Shrink etc
Add a little more quality = User tools.
Now, if you have Nero, you will also have Nero Recode and should be able to use it as your "1-click solution". It has a nifty "merge titles" function, which does all that VobEdit does.
Take your pick Stranger - if you don't mind a little pause, just run with DVD Shrink. After all, your "pause time" has been reduced from a minute to a second - maybe that's OK.

@2COOL
Thanks for that - when I finally get a minute, I'll try that out. So, I guess it's kinda like a VobEdit demux by cell ID. Interesting.

woohoo! search success!
but but but, using DVDshrink's reauthor-ing method would result in the loss of the menu? At the moment I'm trying to re-unite Robin Locksley and Maid Marion....it's a flipper DVD too.
So, how do I convince Jsoto(VOBblanker) to play the matchmaker...? Merging the two SCENE SELECTIONS sets together...?
TIA
Unlike Stranger, I'm not very picky :D :D :D

Appending movie from second disk to the first one preserving menu of the first disk and all the chapters of both disks is quite simple (similar to: http://www.dimadsoft.com/dvdremakepro/ht_merge1.php ).
It is a little bit more involved to put menu from the second disk into the first one. Well, actually this is also just few clicks, but takes some time to modify navigation so that chapters from second disk can be selected via menu. But can be also done.

Oh great one(Dimad)! I know about the DVDremakepro's ability to do the stitch. Trouble is, I'm finding it hard to buy it off you!:D . You see, my puter at home has nooo net connection...and I don't even have a paypal acct yet. Accept cold hard cash?:D It's really un-comfortable now to use your MenuEdit unregistered..

Yes, you can - DVD Remake Pro (http://www.dimadsoft.com/dvdremakepro/index.php) makes a new (fairly plain) top level menu to select disk 1 or disk 2. Once you do, you are in the normal menus of the selected disk. To get back to the top menu, press Title Menu on your remote.

I did this movie recently. Joined the two sides with VobEdit (http://ifoedit.wh.fr0zen.com/joinclip.html#joindbl) and IfoEdit. I then imported the menu using PgcEdit. I couldn't figure out how to do the chapters, so I deleted the "Jump To A Scene" button.

But I don't want disk1+2 , I would like new menu that has all chapters...posssible?It's possible as well. In this case, don't use the merge feature. In summary, copy the PGC from disk 2 and append it to disk 1 and define the chapters for added programs. Copy the chapter menus from disk 2 and add them to disk 1 and relink the chapter links. Similar discussion was found here (http://www.cdr-zone.com/forum/about5132.html).

spyhawk: how to define? and relink :=)
i don't understand shit :)

7th August 2006, 03:57
To define chapters, go to Titles pane's right side of window. Select any chapter, right-click and select "Add chapter". Multi-select the currently selected program x to the last program and click OK. These selected programs are the ones from disk 2 that you appended to disk 1.
Relinking chapter menus can be simple or complicated depending on your disk structure. Just read on from the link I posted previously to see if it suits your situation. The main thing is to make the button commands in added chapter menus to be similar to the disk 1's chapter menus.
