Looks like Gabest has created his own container.
This file format is free to use as long as its specification is not
modified or extended without the permission of Gabest. Suggestions
can be sent in email or posted to the forum at sf.net/projects/guliverkli.

Remuxed an avi via graphedit and it plays back fine via MPC.

I tried something more difficult and muxed RV10 + Vorbis + vobsubs from an MKV. I couldnt get VSfilter to connect but it works with MPCs internal subtitle renderer, so maybe I'm doing something wrong.
Seeking is still a bit faulty too in the file, but all in all it looks promising.

How does the file size compare ?
Is it an attempt to lock people to use MPC&DirectShow and nothing else ?

He has released a DirectShow splitter to use with any DS player, and is Gabest not Microsoft.
Not DiretShow players have the file specs to implement his own splitter.
Anyway is really strange he has released a new container. But these "RV10 + Vorbis + vobsubs" are funny.
Searching "midi directshow" in google gives a "Microsoft DirectX DirectShow MIDI Renderer Filter", who will be brave enough? :D

Theres nothing weird about RV10 + Vorbis + VobSubs
thats supported in MKV for quite a while now
If you ask me it seems he has implemented a DirectShow container, meaning:
if you have a spec compliant stream and can output it with a spec compliant DS-splitter it will work with his container. It's a very interesting idea when you think about it. I could be wrong though..
MIDI will certainly work i think, that stuff even works with AVI :p

You tried to mux vobsubs...May I ask how did you import the idx/sub files to graphedit?There is a filter from Gabest named Subtitle Source that allows you to import srt/ass/ssa etc to graphedit but not vobsubs.
If you tried this from a Matroska file then there's nothing wrong with GSM because mkvmerge modifies the vobsubs in order to make them working for matroska.That's why it's not an easy task to extract vobsubs from an mkv file with mkvextract.It's even impossible right now.
When Gabest is ready I'm sure he will release a filter that would allow the import of vobsubs in graphedit.
RV40 (rmvb file splitted with RealMedia Splitter) and Vorbis (ogg file splitted with Gabest's Ogg Splitter) to gsm works for me.

I used a Matroska file as source yes. And I didnt say there was someting wrong with DSM, not at all. Only seeking was a bit faulty, but that was audio related (desycnh) and corrected quickly after playing the file a few seconds.

Anyways DSM is cool I think I'll use it for my next batch of encodes instead of matroska ;)

"To be implemented, sorry for the inconvenience ;)" pop up in the dsm converter util.
Util is part of Media Player Classic if you are wondering.

i've been unaware of any 'dsm converter util'. i used dsmmuxer.ax in graphedit. but there's no such pop up there :confused:
and what part of mpc do u mean ? i can't see anything in the menues. or is it sg different ?
thx

File-->Utils-->DSM Converter
It's right down the bottom near exit. If you don't see it then I guess maybe your MPC is too old.

What are it's advantages compared to MKV ?

@celtic_druid
i use the 2005.02.15 build (downloaded from your site) dsm support is installed but no such item in the file pull-down :confused:
hmmm ... there's sg strange w/this build cus i don't see that fancy shader item neither. i'll check some other builds.
@sirber
i dunno, because i don't know anything about mkv. i've never used it and i don't plan to ever use it. :rolleyes: actually, i don't bother w/containers if i work for myself, i mux everything on-the-fly w/mpc.
dsm is only of theoretical interest, however, i find it the most promising amongst all the possibilities i know. it's simple but quite enough for my purpose, it's freeware, it has everything needed (muxer, splitter, player) in a quite compact form, and all from the same very reliable hand.

Right... I am running a newer version also with updated faad and dirac.
New updates to the cvs, with perhaps chapters; ConvertChapDlg.cpp. Which was missing from the cvs earlier which is why the builds didn't go up.
