View Full Version : Encodes way too small: 2.5G

5th February 2005, 14:51
I have been using DVD Rebuilder and DVD Decrypter for a while and it has been fine. Just recently all my encodes are coming out to 2.5G instead of 4.5G, and I can't figure out what has happened.
I used:
DVD Decrypter 3.5.2.0 in File Mode to rip all the files
DVD RB 0.71b in CCE SP Trial mode
CCE SP Trial 2.70.01.03
I have also tried CCESP 2.50 with EclCCE but I get the same problem.
I have tried using "TargetSectors=2264000" in the rebuilder.ini but it didn't change the final output size.
The final encoded discs seem to work, but I am losing quality by only using up half the disc.
Any ideas?
Thanks guys.

I got project come out at 4.03GB, which never happened before, usually i'll get 4.31G-4.36G.
Using RB 0.74, procoder2.0, AviSynth 2.55, DGDecode 1.10 Final.
i use nero recode2 to stip down the dvd menu only (disc menu size about 900MB :mad:), extras and main movie are unchange (100%), recode created a new video_ts, i then use RB 0.74 to do the encoding.
* i'll try using CCE 2.70 to reencode the file, will post my result.
my rebuilder.ini (http://rapidshare.de/files-en/525481/REBUILDER.INF.html)
cheers.

1. Changing TargetSectors would have no effect because you have overridden it with CCETargetSectors.
2. Try running without OPV mode enabled so I can tell if it is the OPV prediction on v2.70 that is causing the undersizing.

OK, I will do that and post the log results. It will take a few hours, but I will reduce it to 2 passes to reduce the time.

Thanks for your help with this problem. It used to work fine for months, always just a hair under the DVD-R max size.

I'm at a loss. I always come out just slightly under the size of a DVD-5. There's something strange going on here, I just can't see it.

Here's the problem (btw -- all I needed was the [Status] section):
Original_Size=3581927
Excluded_Audio_Sub_Size=2187
VTS_01_SIZE=1844594
VTS_02_SIZE=501989
VTS_03_SIZE=41676
The size of the original is 7,335,786,496 bytes.
All three of the VTSs and the excluded audio add up to 4,895,633,408.
There is 2,440,153,088 bytes of unaccounted for space out there. This is possibly a multi-angle DVD (that has been edited?) that has a huge amount associated with alternate angles. DVD-RB's current methods won't handle that.
Another possibility is that there are LPCM tracks you have decided to keep that are causing problems... (but they shouldn't cause undersizing -- just bad quality).
Or... the directory has a lot of left over files in it that is distorting DVD-RB's ability to estimate output size.

It has been happening with every DVD that I have done in the last month. I always make sure to delete all the files in the working and output directories. I will try and re-encode a DVD that I have done more than a month ago, one that worked fine, and see if the problem persists.
I used the same DVD-Decrypted files with DVD-Shrink and it claimed 7.5G original size and outputed a DVD-5 correctly. Are there any settings in DVD-Decrypter that may be causing trouble, or may help? (if you know)
Thanks.

Well, there is a whole lot of unaccounted for space to be found somewhere -- and it doesn't appear to be in one of those three VTSs. Are there a huge number of VTSs that are smaller than 50MB?
I've never once had a multipass encode of a DVD undersize in 800 or so tests I've done. Something is taking up that extra space...

jdobbs,
thanks for your help. I have been trying to isolate the problem by changing some software around. I tried SmartRipper instead of DVD Decrypter, no change. I tried QEnc 0.59a instead of CCTSPt 2.70, and I got a full size encode! (it took much much longer though)

I will continue trying to isolate the problem with Cinema Craft, since it is much faster.

Once I had exactly the same problem as you described here and I was 100% sure everything is being setup correctly. The last step I did when I was absolutely desperate solve the problem - it might sound silly though: I uninstalled everything my directory had something to do with ReBuilder - AviSynth, CCE 2.50, I removed ElCCE files and ReBuilder as well. I was so paranoid I used RegSupreme to make sure nothing remains in registers along with System Mechanic Pro. Restart the machine, start rebuilder, set paths, set cce 2.50. It works until now. I can't tell why, but it does...:confused:

RitchieMad,
I removed and reinstalled everything like you suggested, and you are right, it cleared up my problem!
Now my discs come out to exactly the right size again.
I wish I could have narrowed the problem down, though I think it may have been a bad version of DGDecoder. Either way, I am back in business again.
Thanks.

No surprise. Some of DVD-RB's configuration parameters are affected by sunspots, phases of the moon, or alignment of planets.
You should watch my debugging techniques. I usually put my hands on the monitor and shout "Heal!" or "Get thee out unholy demons!"

Yep, there is something wrong with DVD-RB .70+ and CCE 2.7+ make undersized backups!
I posted the problem back here: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=86798

I swithed back to version 0.69 and everything came out perfect!
I think when support for CCE 2.7+ happened in 0.73 is when this problem with older CCE's started.
EDIT: I forgot to mention that the undersizing only happens on Multi-Angle movies.

Yep, there is something wrong with DVD-RB .70+ and CCE 2.7+ make undersized backups! Really? I've done dozens of them and they all have sized exactly.
Are you using multipass or OPV?

Always do multipass here.
