View Full Version : Seeking VOBblanker tips

1. Say I tailored everything the way I wanted in PGCedit, kill this pgc and that pgc and jump from here to there. Now it's ready for VOBblanker-ing. Do I leave the change post to pre commands(safely) checked or unchecked? My reasoning is that I already set it properly inside PGCedit so I shouldn't disturb any commands inside VOBblanker...?? All I'm doing now is butchering all the dead weights, yes? :p

2. A few times, when I have just did the VOBblanker-ing, I noticed a ooops. Inverting the selections and process the VTS menu or title in question always seem to get me into trouble. :( I have to cure(blindly I might add :D) it with IFOedit. Sometimes I even have to process all of them again. The Q is, what are the seemingly obvious checks or unchecks I need to choose....Process Title, Process Menu, Process IFO....?

Sorry, I'm typing without the prog present, strictly from re-collection.

TIA

Process IFO: always checked (in fact I'm going to hide this checkbox)
Process Menu and Process title:
a) If processing to a different folder: Always checked, or you have to do some "manual" work. (Manual work is: Copy previously the menus to the destination folder, if menus unchecked, or copy the titles if titles unchecked) These checkboxes affect to all the VTSs, and they are with the intention to be able to keep the menus (titles) as they are in the originals, modifying only the titles (menus)
b) If processing in Input folder: The behavior is the same, but you do not have to do the "manual" work.

Anyone else with any burning VOBblaner question is welcome to post here:p .

I hope it becomes a FAQ thread.

Fresh curiosity, Jsoto.

PGCedit can hook IMGtool to create the ISO, call Decrypter to burn it; Blutach's guide to mux/demux a motion menu into stilled and 2COOL's really fexible PGCjump.

Thinking(dangerously:p ), is it not possible to attach your PGCdemux with VOBblanker, write a utility/macro to import the BMP menu in question and voila, change a motion menu into a still.....?

"Which one do you need to convert?"

VTSM 1 LU PGC 9.....

"Where's the BMP located at?"

DESKTOP.

(fingers crossed)

change a motion menu into a still.....?
Included in 1.6.0.5. In fact, this is the main feature of 1.6.0.5. But with an I-Frame from the original menu.

We (some guys from here) are working hard on motion2still...

Lol @spell checking nibbles n bits. I think 2COOL's deviating from KIBBLES(?) N BITS <<<< dogfood :p .

And guys, I'm just throwing a monkey wrench here. Suggesting Blutach's bitmap method :D. Right now I'm "fighting with Darth Vader" in which there are not one but THREE sets of menus!! Totalling 640mbs of valuable space ! Through JUMP2PGC, I was able to route to the desired menu set:D . Couldn't wait to go home tonite to trim some of the cells further. The bitrate count of the original movie is whoopingly high, averaging 8mbps.

you're right, but episode 6 is authored the very same way, extremely wasteful (from the DVD-R5 point of view!).

"What is thy bidding, master?" said D. Vader.

Actually I'm steering back to the topic.

@Jsoto:

If I try to strip the main movie of unwanted audio tracks and THEN try to do logos chop chop at the beginning and at the end, the prev/cut function is grey-ed out, meaning not allowed. Too much multi-tasking?

Hi Jsoto,

yesterday you mentioned about the easter eggs:

So would VOBblanker show the easter eggs or not? Easter eggs are "unreferenced materials"?

TIA

(couldn't wait to try the 1605)

jsoto
26th February 2005, 00:08
Easter eggs are referenced material. If not, you will never access to them.
To clarify:
- Unreferenced material are cells not included in any PGC, but they are (of course) included in ADT and their VOBUs in ADMAP tables. There is no way to play them in the settop. Only with a SW player, and opening directly the VOB (not the IFO) you can play them.

- Easter eggs are PGCs "difficult" to see how to get to play. In example, a hidden button, not highlighted, and you cannot see it (i.e. in reservoir dogs, there is a 4th button in extras screen, which gives you access to a Tarantino's interview) . Other example is a PGC not linked in any menu button, but in "prev link" of another PGC.

EDIT:
Because VobBlanker shows PGCs, you cannot see (preview) the unreferenced material "directly".

May be you can consider an easter egg "special features" like the buttons to select the menu set in SW DVDs, but talking about PGCs, yes, Voblanker shows them in the same way like the normal ones.

Both Charlie's Angels disks had lotsa EEs.

The easy way to find these, surf, I have found is with Menuedit (look at the adjacent buttons) or PgcEdit (viewing the menu: Ctrl-M). You may need to follow the commands through or, if you're lucky, the Jump to Target will jump there directly.

But usually, they look like out of place buttons (not to be confused with chapter menu buttons which take you automatically to the next chapter menu page).

You just have to experiement.

But, once you find the sequence, you can always use them. It's usually a Left or Right arrow from one particular button that looks like it's going nowhere in particular.

Wheeew !

For a while I thought VOBblanker won't show the EE's pgc. Come to think of it, them EEs can stay hidden for all I care for my preference in backup is to devote as many bits(no wisecrack blu) to the movie as possible.:p Only very relevant/interesting clips survive the cut. Trailers, studios and warning logos become petfood.

I have. Angles are not allowed in menus (info provided by mpucoder) so there shouldn't be any risk in processing menus with vobblanker. jsoto, maybe you should modify the UI to indicate that while it's not OK to process the title, you can still process the menu...

What I do (not sure that's the best way) is, I force "process" on the VTS, by clicking process. Then I select the menu and ask for what I want (menu2still etc). The title is simply copied over but the menu is processed as requested.

Thanks for the info. Do you copy the title to the processed folder? I thought VOB would deinterlace the angles if the angled movie was processed, the angles would play one after each other (chap1 Ang1, Ang2, Ang3, then Chap2 Ang1, Ang2, Ang3 ect). Is this correct?

Would like to get rid of the end credit, menu2still, only keep one audio (5.1 english) and if possible get rid of 2 angles in the StarWars movies, has any done this?

Thanks in advance for your help.

@blueboyec and others

Yes, it is safe to process the menus.

The simplest option is:
PHASE 1): Process the menu of a multiangle title:
- Select "Use input folder"
- Skip all the VTSs except the one with the menu you want to process.
- Uncheck "process titles"

In this way, VB will process "all" the menus of "all" the not-skipped VTSs. In your case, the menu you are trying to process.

PHASE 2) Process all the other VTSs (titles and menus)
After Phase 1 processing, you can do more rerunning VB in other VTSs, i.e.
- Rename VobBlanker_backup folder if you want to be able to recover Phase 1. If not, VB will delete its contents and you will be able to recover PHASE 2, but not PHASE 1.
- Select "Use input folder"
- Skip all the VTSs except the ones you want to process (assuming they do not have multiangle).
- Check again "process titles" and keep "process menus" checked.
In this way, VB will process the menus and titles of "all" the not-skipped VTSs

That's all.

Move over, the great galaxy tactician's here :p .

BBec, you may want to strip your movie first to get rid of the angles, specially 2 and 3. This way you'll recover more space for transcoding with DVDshrink/Recode. You may use 2COOL's guide (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=84097). which is about mock striping. You can adapt it to actually strip the angles.

Additional clarifications:
The title is simply copied over but the menu is processed No, that's not correct. VB never copies a file. It always process it. Let's say: even if you keep the whole VTS, VB will explore PGC by PGC and "copies" (processing lba pointers) the cells in the PGC order. So the output can be different.

Would like to get rid of the end credit, menu2still, only keep one audio (5.1 english) and if possible get rid of 2 angles in the StarWars movies, has any done this?
No VB does not support multiangle in any way. Multi-story (ILV) is more or less "supported" (however, the cells are de-interleaved, so it will be some pauses in the branches)
So, you need to delete the angles (using IFOEdit, i.e.) and then process the disk.

Another way (IMHO, easier) if you want to keep the angles is: Use VB for menu2still and for blanking other VTSs (using the method I posted above), and , finally, use DVD-RB to delete the audios, keep the angles and fit the movie in a DVD-5.

Hey, can I strip subtitles with VB? If not, I think it would be a useful feature.

Also if I want a movie-only backup, can I "delete" instead of "blank" titlesets and menus? I mean, would it be the equivalent of making a movie-only backup with IfoEdit?

blueboyec

VOBblanker can process muliangles movies if you remove unwanted mutiangle cells! If you want to keep all the angles VOB will not work.

VOBblanker was able to process the Star Wars (SW) movies (IV, V, & VI) with no problems just the way I wanted (menus to stills, removed 2 unwanted angles, end credits)! This program is great!!

VOB will automatically set the SW movies to be skipped because they have angles and ILV in them but you can still process the movie!

Below is how I processed the movie, I will use SW VI (Return of the Jedi) as an example:

SW VI has 2 chapters (2 & 3) with angles and ILV so I use VOB to remove the unwanted angles. If you process these SW movies with the angles, the movies play the chapter with the angles right after each other – Chap 1, Chap 2 Angle 1 then Chap 2 Angle 2 and Chap 2 Angle 3, Chap 3 Angle 1 then Chap 3 Angle 2 and Chap 3 Angle 3 then the rest of the movie. Not fun to watch Chap 2 and 3 three times before watching the rest of the movie, so I blanked out the cells that contain the two unwanted angles in chapter 2 & 3.

1. Change the movie TitleSet from skip to process.
2. Double click on PGC# 1 and the cell window opens up.
3. Angle removal:
a. Pick cell 3 (Chap 2 Angle 2, 69MB) blank, Pick cell 4 (Chap 2 Angle 3, 69MB) blank, Pick cell 6 (Chap 3 Angle 2, 13MB) blank, Pick cell 7 (Chap 3 Angle 3, 13MB) blank.
End Credit removal:
b. Pick cell 57 (303MB) blank

4. Close the cell widow after saving the changes
5. With the movie TitleSet still chosen, Click the Menu button and the Menu widow pops up.
6. Right click on a menu cell and new widow opens, I pick process all the widow then closes.
7. In the menu window I check blank cells without buttons and selected Middle (other selections produced non working menus) for Selection of I frame. Click process. Results 35Mb Menu, removed over 600Mb of menus! Close menu window
8. I also blanked out all other title sets and there menus.
9. Click process.
10. That’s it.

To shrink the VOBblanker processed DVD to a DVD 5 disk, I used DVDrebuilder (RB) to shrink and remove unwanted audios. I tried to use DVD Shirk but it would crash after analysis but RB processed fine.

Comments/suggestions?

Jsoto thank for the great program!!

Not in my TODO....Use dvdshrik of IFOedit for that.

Also if I want a movie-only backup, can I "delete" instead of "blank" titlesets and menus? I mean, would it be the equivalent of making a movie-only backup with IfoEdit? [/B] For movie-only, I recommend you:
- dvdshrink if the resulting fits in a DVD-5 or if the required compression is, let say, "not too strong".
- dvd2svcd in dvd2dvd mode, using D2SRoBa+CCE: Two encoding passes, one OPV and forzing an additional sizing pass.

Yes, it works..., but the process is not fully correct:
- Some cells (not all of them!) are still marked as multiangle...
- VOB probably is OK, but with some blank cells inside...
- The "new" program chain will not be seamless. at least the cells will be marked as cell type 2.

So, the same solution, but processing the IFO previously will be better. I never did it with IFOEdit (I've written an unreleased CLI proggie for this), but I believe It should be also feasible with pgcEdit (which already is an unvaluable tool)

-Use pgcEdit and remove the unwanted cells (this is an experimental feature, and some care has to be taken if there are linkPGCN or linkCN commands). I believe it has not problem in SW..
- Clear (with PGCEdit ) the angle flags of the cells you are keeping.
- And now, apply VobBlanker!.

(I didn't check this process, but I think it should work...although the angle pointers are not cleared inside the VOB, probably they will not be taken into acount)

Thank again for the great program and helping me learn.

CLI=Command Line Interface.
But, sorry, it is not CLI, it has a small GUI!
The proggie modifies the IFO, deleting the unwanted angles. The rest (inside the VOB) is done by VobBlanker. After deleting the angles, you can "replace" the main movie with a CCE recoded one with VB, if you want.

http://jsoto.posunplugged.com/temp/del_angles.zip

BTW: I'm not releasing anything (I only tested this exe with a couple of DVDs). Just to show you what needs to be done.

Hi blueboyec,
If DVDshrink crashes, then it is almost 99.99% certain that your dvd folder is in not compliant. You need to fix it inside IFOedit. By the way, why didn't you use IFOedit to strip angle 2 & 3 as mentioned previously? I have and the copy is great, even though VOBblanker still protests even after stripping, something about ILVU thingy. But the blanked result shows any ill-effect.

Jsoto,

thanks for the info again.

Surf,

Wanted to do it by using only one program. I also read that IFOedit did not correct the some of the angle pointer and was thinking that VB would not be able to process the output. Will try it next time.

Thanks
