Well it seems that both of my drives has lost there auto play. First drive is a AOPEN 16XDVD Rom/AMH

Second one is SONY DVD RW DRU-710A

Both drives quit at the same time. Both drives work with the exception of the auto play option. I went in and set every option i could under the auto play but nothing seems to help. When you drop a auto start disc in either drive and go to my computer and open it there you will see the D: & E: drives and they appear to be empty. If you go ahead and click it they will load up what was on the disc. I have every update there is via windows xp that they offer. Tryed to uninstall and re install but no luck there either. Im at a loss here and need some help.

If I didn't think that theoretically some malicious programmer could put a virus in the autorun part of a CD/DVD, and if I was too lazy to make one additional click with a mouse, I would do the following about the described situation:

- I would check if services "shell hardware detection" and "removable storage" are autoplaying.

- I would check if the value of registry entry "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Cdrom\AutoRun" is 1.

- I would also check da Group Policy Editor.

- I would uninstall the last installed program, especially if it was related to CD/DVD burning.

- I would go to Device Manager and uninstall the optical drives, then the controller they are connected to, and reboot immediately.

- I would reinstall Windoze.

(Every step is more desperate then the previous).
