Hi,

this might be bit off topic, but I am really happy I finally found a free tool to capture HDV material from my brand new Sony HDR-FX1. I had no opportunity to check with JVC JY-HD10 / GR-HD1, but it should work.

http://home.earthlink.net/~weathersix/CapDVHS_0306a.zip

This is a modified version suitably resizing fonts for English texts.
For an umodified CapDVHS version, please search the net.

In order to get the resulting MPG files opened by VirtualDub, I used an AviSynth script consisting of just one line:
DirectShowSource("filename.mpg")

I may be late with this, but if could help just someONE it's great for me ...

Cheers,
Frank

Hi zarmastyle,

if CapDVHS (try a search) does not work (it really should!), you might also try Paviko's great tool:

http://strony.aster.pl/paviko/hdvsplit.htm

Additionally, most NLEs today should be able to import HDV. And for an intermediate codec (if necessary at all), try any MJPEG codec (eg. from ffdshow). It's better than cineform (less artifacts) and FREE ...

I see that CapDVHS can output video to a DVHS deck. Does anyone know if it can do the same with HDV (to a HDV camera, of course)?

EDIT: Answered my own question. It works!

the main problem with your program is that it doesnt see the camcorder
