View Full Version : Options for watching .mov files?

I would like to install something to play Quicktime mov files, but:
- I'd rather not download iTunes
- I don't want to be nagged to get Quicktime pro every time I play something
- I'd rather not have something running in the background aggressively making sure I'm reminded if I change any MIME associations (or whatever it is that qttask.exe does)
Do I have any other options?

But it has some problem with mp4 warpped aac files,
i tried many times,
after stop playing the mp4-aac file, the dshow based player or windows will stop responding a while,
because it use full CPU usage while exiting

You need to have dshow filters to connect to it though which is fine for MPEG4, aac, etc. but not for all quicktime files.

most .mov files use aac audio, for which you could use coreaac or 3ivx' own decoder
for video most use sorenson, which can be decoded by ffdshow afaik (never tried it)

I have installed QuickTime Player and WinDVD6.
I have added the following registry key in order to "connect" Intervideo's QT Source with mov and qt extensions.
REGEDIT4
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Media Type\Extensions\.mov]
"Source Filter"="{B41560DF-D635-4AE4-916E-73348DDB27A9}"
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Media Type\Extensions\.qt]
"Source Filter"="{B41560DF-D635-4AE4-916E-73348DDB27A9}"
Now I finally watch any mov file I have in any directshow player I want including WMP10 :D
It seems to work better for me than Cyberlink's QT Source filter that quicktime alternative includes.

Is your 3ivx filter set is newer than me?
BTW, 3ivx splitter seems can't "recognize" the avc-in-mp4:(

and problems with simple aac-in-mp4 files would be mentioned very fast, as its the normal way to use .mp4
BTW, 3ivx splitter seems can't "recognize" the avc-in-mp4indeed, but we are getting offtopic, this thread is about .mov
