View Full Version : Dedicated Forums... Why?

I've noticed that as soon a a piece of software gets HOT that it seems to splinter off into it's own forum. Shrink did this... DVDRemake has a home elsewhere... I think DVDDecryptor does too... Now I see one for DVDRebuilder...

I don't think this helps anyone... Searching for answers on 5 web sites sucks... Doom9.org provides a community of people and knowledge beyond any other forum I have seen... Maybe it feels good to get so popular that starting a forum is possible... But it dilutes all forums everytime someone splits off... Software developers are busy and have limited time... They start paying attention to their specialized forum and they spend less time on doom9... I've seen it...

But until someone invents a tool that does perfect RIPing, perfect ReAuthoring, perfect compression, and perfect image creation and burning... I hope authors of these individual tools understand that they only exist as long as there are complimentary tools to support them... and having ONE location that has a wealth of talented people to discuss ALL TOOLS is a fabulous idea...!

It's a good thing Doom9 thought of it.:D

I completely agree with your question. I very much prefer to have things in one place instead of having to look at 10 different places, but I cannot control the creation of dedicated forums :/

At least the Doom9 Forum is not as fragmented as say, the AVS forum!

Over there they have threads about "high-def" stand-alone players, in the "standard-def" section ;)

Seriously though... the moderators seem to be very pro-active here, and seldom miss moving a badly allocated thread to the relevant forum!

Cheers

Well, can't say for everyone, but in case of DvdReMake reason was quite simple. DRM is not a freeware. Having a lot of respect to the forum I was trying not to get into conflict with the rule N5 of this forum. To be on a safe side it was much easier to create forum in another place rather then worry that me or somebody else will get into trouble for posting something inappropriate.

Cheers I didn't mean wrong thread wrong place... I was talking about losing talented folks to other Forums all together OUTSIDE doom9 entirely...

I totally get you... and you do a great job fielding questions here at Doom9 still... I thank you for that...

It's their tool, they decide. I don't really see a problem; different forums usually have a different atmosphere, which is very refreshing I might add. Fragmentation is my friend. :)
