splitting mkv+vobsub

now that i've gotten them to mux and play properly (it is hard, especially on win98), i was wondering... i have been unable to split mkv files with vobsub muxed into them. virtualdubmod 1.5.10.1 says it cannot read the subtitle file and refuses to open the file. my somewhat annoying workaround is muxing video and audio, then splitting the subtitles with subcut, then muxing each separate video+audio mkv with its corresponding subtitle file into yet another mkv.

is there another program which will open mkv with vobsubs? or a filter or dll for vdubmod that will allow me to do this?

Have a look at mkvtoolnix. it muxes mkv way better than vdubmod and does splitting as well.
