ifoedit problem

hi there - this is the first time i use ifoedit and so my problem might be an obvious one. if so please accept my appologies in advance

i have captured a film from my digital TV box and converted it to DVD files for burning. I've done this many times before and it works fine. This time the film is over three hours long and i realised i needed to downsize it for a DVD-R disc. I used DVD Rebuilder which again i used before with no problems. However this is the first time i tried to downsize a dvd created from a DVB capture (authorised using DVDauthor) and this time i have a prblem (and i tried it twice).
I used CCE 2.5 for the encoding.
when rebuilding it ends as a small VOB file of 288mb (should be around 4.5GB, the m2v file is 4GB) and obviously doesnt work as a dvd.
after giving up on this option i decided to try the ifoedit. The files i had left in the D2vavs folder left by DVD rebuilder are:

V01000000001001.m2v
V01000000001001.VAF

with no audio file i used DVD2AVI to create an .mpa file from the original VOBs.

now the problem is that when playing the .m2v file (for example with zoomplayer or others) the screen looks scrambled (see captured frame attached)

if i play the AVS file everything looks hunkydory.

now to the bottom line - If i use ifoedit, through 'author new dvd' and pick the m2v file as video source it creates a garbled image like before but by the look of it i cant use the avs file as video source (it crashed when i tried).

so now looking for some suggestions...

This is not an IfoEdit problem. IfoEdit can't (nor was it meant) to open AviSynth files.

The problem is that you are using DVD-RB's "temp" files. DVD-RB uses these files to remux the VOB files back together.

You should just use DVD Rebuilder in 1 click mode and let it reauthor for you. But since it is garbled it indicates a problem with your settings in DVD-RB or even before that a problem with your source files. So no matter what program you use (ie IfoEdit) to reauthor DVD-RB's output, it will always be garbled becuase the DVD-RB m2v files are garbled.

So you either have to figure out why DVD-RB is doing this and fix it or try another program besides DVD-RB.

if your authored DVD (which is too big) plays well and is OK,
DVDRB should be able to process it... or am i missing something?

another alternative that you might try is DVD shrink. perhaps the quality is not at the same level as with DVDRB, but if you don't need to shrink a lot, it should be good enough.
