i gotta say that after trying VLC nobody can deny thats it's the most powerful and verbose media player out there... only one problem. it screws up when playing AVCs with b frames. anybody got any luck with it working?

Not me,same problem, it's frustating.
VLC is a very good tool, but full of bugs, I think it's suffering from trying to be too many things.

Reason would be that libavcodec needs updating in it. You could try mplayer in the meantime.

Did you biuld VLC yourself or use a nightly build ? Maybe this build doesn't contain the latest FFMPEG as used in FFDShow ?

i think latest version plays AVC fine with b-frames, give it a try:

libavcodec is parked at version 4738 for some weeks now. It must be a question of time before vlc and just about every free tool used for video encoding gets updated as well.

Here's a clip with a bit newer filters using 3-bframes and fixed deblocking -2 with extra quality and all tools enabled.

i have the latest nightly build 20050201 and the playback is fine now but then another problem arises... memory useage, vlc uses 340MB of my memory and that is definately overkill MPC uses >60MB for the same file!

Checked for Virus or something like that? I seriously doubt that this is because of VLC.
