View Full Version : ProjectX - cant demux or preview

My goal is to take .ts files, recorded via Motorola cable box (Us/Canadian cable) or from those announced on the alt.binarieshdtvcom site, and to convert them to WMV or Xvid

I have .ts files, but I seem to be stuck at the second hurdle with ProjectX

I compiled ProjectX 0.82.0.00 using a modified "build.bat" command as instructed
This did create a projectx.jar, altho there was a message about replacing newer resources
I have Java 2 SDK and Runtime 1.4.2_07 installed

Anyway opened projectx.jar, amd was able to add a .ts file using drag and drop
I have not changed any ProjectX preset settins, and have not added any external programs
The only check box I ensured was the Mpegschnitt one mentioned by Doom9

Now the problems start:
I cant preview - I get "error while decoding frame"

and I can't demux - it does go thru the process, but seems to reject every frame, keeps returning "dropping GOP..."

BTW it does do something - if I set it to produce a .ts file from the .ts file, it does produce one which is a little larger!! (and plays)

EDIT:
A bit of an update on this
I have several different sample .ts files available to me from newsgroups. All of these files check with Quickpar, and all play fine in VLC
Some wiii demux partially e.g. the demuxed video file is (say) 50MB from a 100MB .ts file, on others ProjectX will discard all of the video file with errors like below.
Does this help anyone?

I attach the end of the log file:

I won't be much help, but I capture .ts files the same way you do through the Motorolla box via firewire out onto my lap top with CapDVHS. It works great.

Of course, depending on what channel I capped I will get the same decoding error in Project X that you. I get it on shows captured from HBOHD, ESPNHD, and Discovery HD. For these files, I try and cut commercials or parts out in mpeg2vcr (which can be finicky).

For all other HD stations that I've capped from I demux in Project X without any problems--not that I've noticed in any case.

I don't have a work around for that error and the same things happen to me that happen to you when I try to demux them. I have not tried to create another .ts file that way.

Sorry for not being of any help, I just wanted to let you know that I have a similiar problem but only on select stations.

ProjectX fails on streams with no GOP headers at all or streams with
inverse telecine and the GOP timecode counts input frames rather than
output frames.

The author of ProjectX is well aware of these issues, but his A/V sync
algorithm (which is a great feature of ProjectX), is apparently based
on GOP timecodes. Therefore, a fix would be an extensive change and
probably the reason it hasn't been implemented.

I've written a demuxer that handles the first case of no GOP headers.
It inserts GOP headers in the demuxed video elementary stream for
tools that require them (although it's perfectly legal in MPEG-2 to
not have GOP headers). If your streams are error free, it will work
pretty well (it only does A/V sync at the beginning of the file). It
can be downloaded here:

Ron,

many thanks for this and the explanation, will let you know how it goes

BTW I happen to have a registered copy of TSReader, from earlier days

There is mention of this program close to your post, but it suggests it does not work

Does TSReader works in this kind of situation, even with the latest updates
