View Full Version : VirtualDubMp4 feature wish list

All right, I know that this is far from reality, but I thought that we could start making it reality by coming up with a wish list of suggestions and then send it to Avery. Here's what I propose:

-Doesn't have to be a seperate VirtualDub, could make an option to go into MPEG-4 mode, just like error mode under Video/Audio. So when MPEG-4 mode is chosen, VirtualDub goes into allowing MPEG-4 Video/Audio codecs only.
-No private streams; we wouldn't want a bunch of non ISO compliant *.mp4 files floating around the internet. Stick to the standard is always best :)
-The ability to choose certain MPEG-4 Video/Audio codecs such as DivX/XviD/3ivX/ffdshow/NeroDigital Video/Audio (IF Nero ever releases a codec pack in the future).
-The ability to choose 3ivX AAC in Audio compression. Not just Monaural and Stereo, but 5.1 and so on.
-Id3 tags/meta tags/ISO MPEG-4 tags, or whatever kind of tags the MPEG-4 standard allows. Avery Lee implemented Avi tags in the latest release, so chances are that this could be reality if he ever implemented mp4 in VirtualDub :)
-Output to the *.mp4 container would be fully ISO compliant.
-Keep everything ISO MPEG-4 standard. But seeing how Avery never allowed VBR mp3 in VirtualDub, I doubt that I need to bring this up.

Well, I think I'm done for now. If you guys want to come with suggestions, bring 'em on!

Holy mackeral. Are you sure such a fundemental usurping of the VirtualDub's founding values is gonna catch on? No way, probably.

But if this becomes a reality, man, I'm all for it!

I'd like it to be able to open MP4s as well as save, modify, and append them.

In all likeliness it'd be easier to just write a new program based on mp4, rather than trying to contort vfw into something it's not.

I suppose. Although one might argue that vfw isn't even for ASP (B-frame "hack"), that's how asp is widely used. How many people use xvid strictly in dshow? Or directly coding to MP4? Not nearly as many as those who use vfw. It's simply easier and more widely supported (for now).

Yeah, perhaps a new one is better, but it's still worth a shot, eh?
