Please post any feedback on build 1461 (HiggsBoson) here.

Thanks! :)

- Global motion compensation caused pink artifacting
- Global motion compensation caused compensation error does this mean that dxn is working on their gmc? like more warppoints or so? :)

(Cross Post from previous Thread. Testing The latest beta out HiggsBoson)

well the new container is a good idea however I think that there are already way better containers out there (mp4, mkv) so using .divx is well pointless to me. anyway I tested out the latest release fromt he fusion series and I gotta say that on my machine uning insane mode is impossible. I'm kinda a quality person but I really can't stand the new insane modes 1.2fps rendering. I can easily get better quality on xvid at 9-12fps witht he same avs script. The only downside to xvid is that it's not guaranteed to play in hardware players (I don't have a DVD player anyway *poor college Student*) but other than that it's great for my backup/enhancement needs.

positive things I did notice however are the introduction of a higher quality qpel as well as multi consecutive B-vops which is a great move forward in terms of divx gaining even more compressability/quality. Additionally the gui is much better than before in my opinion and now loads immediately rather than a 30 second delay with 5.2.1 pro. Much easier navigation. I haven't tried out the noise removal/deinterlacing functions (kinda weary to try them until the final release) The new divx player and the divx decoder does have a bunch of speed improvements that I really notice on my machine. Post processing seems to be one of the best enhanced features.

Thanks again divx I'll keep testing the codec on different anime sources I have and see how they turn out in comparission to xvid.

I have a problem with the decoder with Advanced hardware overlay enabled. With it enabled the picture gets b0rked on mainly all DivX 3 LM encodes and in some rare cases in HM encodes too. I don't see why some (2 on my HD) div3 do play fine while others get b0rked and vice versa for div4; they play fine except 1 on my HD.
I have a GeForce 2 Ti with ForceWare 66.93.

I tested it and i can only say one thing it seems DXN tunes for HD only here balanced mode + qpel is unbeliveable slow 3x slower then XviD with Qpel even without Qpel it's slower and the gained visual quality less Quality/Speed wise DivX is drifting in the "Wee need all power to get baseline AVC" area, very sad developing i think it's a lost race what DXN tries here. *Is sure they allready work on a AVC like Codec*

Hi, before I install this encoder, I would like to know if there is a time-limit involved?

Thanks

Well that depends on if you have already bought divx pro or not. if not, it's a 6 month test period (if I remember correctly) until the "demo" version expires.

This beta is actually fully functional and unrestricted, even if you are not a registered DivX Pro user, until end of March '05 :)

hi, hope this isnt a really obvious question but...

I'm using virtual dub, trying to create a file using the divx fusion codec.
first source was an interlaced file extracted from a PAL dvd, second try was with a PAL vob created on my PC.
in each case i get the message ' video compression error: the source image format is not acceptable (error code -2)

when previously using divx 5 codec i had no such problems.

any ideas?

See if Answer #3 solves your problem; it has helped with production DivX installs.

tried the mentioned fixes - didnt apply unfortunately - already had the settings correct.
uninstalled fusion and installed divx 5 pro and that's working...

Sorry it didn't help.

Merged bug report into the B1461 discussion thread.

Is it just me or does the DivX decoder now support anamorphic signalling. After selecting the option below...

http://img17.exs.cx/img17/5181/divxfilter6uv.gif

...PAR/DAR signalling seems to work!

But man, the decoder (at 781KB) sure has got big!

Uncheck the codec's "Do not prompt with errors and warnings" to see if the encoder has something to tell you.

Hello friends,

I am new here, but I am testing and playing with codecs for years now. I tested both DivX Fusion builds and the 2nd one is really a bit faster, but quality improvements I could not notice so far.

I recoded the World of Warcraft Intro trailer ( which is DivX 5.2.1 @1700 kbit/s ) to Divx Fusion build 1461 extreme-mode (h.263 optimized) , to On2 VP6.2 "good quality, fast encoding" and to XviD 1.1 default-settings.

No resize, but lower bitrate @1000 kbit/s , 1-pass, and then I watched them several times and made some pics with PNG for you to look for yourself:

DivX Fusion build 1461 extreme :
http://www.fr3ak.de/mert/1/WoW%20Fusion%20Extreme%201.PNG

XviD 1.1 default settings :
http://www.fr3ak.de/mert/1/WoW%20XviD%201.PNG

On2 VP 6.2 "good quality, fast encoding" :
http://www.fr3ak.de/mert/1/WoW%20VP6.2%201.PNG

DivX:
http://www.fr3ak.de/mert/WoW%20Fusion%20Extreme%202.PNG

XviD:
http://www.fr3ak.de/mert/WoW%20XviD%202.PNG

VP6.2:
http://www.fr3ak.de/mert/WoW%20VP6.2%202.PNG

As we see, there are not many differences at all and on the pics, you don't see that much, but in motion, I noticed some differences:

XviD seems to have most details especially in low motion parts, but in fast motion parts I noticed more blocks than on the other 2 codecs.

VP6.2 had more details than DivX, but less than XviD and blocky parts were less than XviD but more than DivX

DivX had less details than the others, but nearly no blocks in fast motion parts.

My conclusion so far: In high bitrates, all the codecs have a good quality, XviD hs its strengths in low motion and DivX Fusion in fast motion and VP6.2 is the middle of both :-)

When it comes to encoding speed, XviD wins the match, followed by DivX Fusion and then VP6.2, but I can't say, that I have chosen the best settings to make a perfect comparison, so take it as it is for yourself.

If you need more information or more pics, I will try to add more :-)

Maybe I will make some 500 kbit/s encodings to show the limits of each codec :)

What is the codec vp6.2? wich tool/encoding program working with vp6.2??

Sharktooth
8th February 2005, 12:44
Holy, dont use a divx source for encoding. It has already lost all the original details.
If you use a better source you will notice how xvid and vp6.2 retain much more details than divx.
Plus you didnt enable advanced codecs features in both xvid and vp6.2 but you did it with divx (extreme mode).
If you encode at 500kbps there will be no chances for both xvid and divx. VP6.2 will win without problems.

@diesel2000nl: VP6.2 is a codec from On2 Tech. It has a vfw interface so you can use it with any app that supports vfw (for example virtualdub).

However all these codecs are configurable in this regard according to your preference, e.g. if you want DivX to improve low motion at the cost of high motion scenes then you can arrange this. Also postprocessing settings will affect your experience.

Okay,

thanks for your comments. The DivX source is the only one I have of this intro trailer and the DivX source @1700 kbit/s is very good. I can't imagine more details than it has already, maybe some ultra small ones, but I would like to do some tests @500-700 kbit/s. But I don't know good settings for comparable results, so if you have some suggestions, I will do some more encodings :-)

10th February 2005, 15:19
Sure, I have :-) You mean, there is no need for this at all. Okay, you are right I think. I did some 500 kbit/s encodings though with default settings and VP6.2 won the match clearly. Sharktooth was right in this case (with default settings at least) :)

Hi DivX guys,

I've just noticed that your Adaptive Multiple Consecutive (AMC) B-VOP implementation has changed: -

http://img103.exs.cx/img103/7610/divx503b1461pmbvop4pb.gif

I'm sure previous versions did not include packed bit-stream with AMC B-VOP. And did not offer more than "two" consecutive b-frames in a row!

Can you confirm please?

Cheers

Summary:

DivX 5.2.1:
ASC - Packed, profile-compliant
AMC - Unpacked, max 2 consecutive non-profile-compliant

DivX Fusion:
ASC - Packed, profile-compliant
AMC - Packed, max 2 consecutive compliant with HD profile, max 3 consecutive in Unconstrained mode/non-profile-compliant

i did some tests myself on my kill bill vol. 1 dvd, using latest versions of both xvid and divx codec, and divx kicked xvid's A** big-time.DivX Rocks, and that compressibility test stuff in GKnot also SU*** ! DivX Bitrate Calculator (in the codec gui) is much much better! Also, H.263 Optimised Quantization is mucho better than MPEG!

Hi-

There was a nice civilized and genteel discussion going on until you began polluting it, neo_anderson. DigitAl56K asked you nicely to keep it clean, yet you persisted with your infantile behavior. Yes, IgorC was a bit agressive in his response, but it wasn't anything you didn't deserve, in my opinion. I might ask you to read the Forum Rules (http://forum.doom9.org/forum-rules.htm) again, particularly rules 2 and 4. You've been warned (again). I don't know the atmosphere at other forums you might visit regularly, but behavior such as yours simply won't be tolerated here.

Bye.

If you think you were treated unfairly, you can appeal to Doom9. He has the final word in such matters. You can do it by following the instructions in the final paragraph of the Sanctions Page (http://forum.doom9.org/sanctions.htm).

Boy that was fun to read. Anyway I think each codec is suited to meet certain content however in terms of customizability to all sources and being able to set settings differently to get the best result xvid will win everytime. Divx is mainly geared to standards of it's hardware devices and will probably never implement all the features that xvid has . As soon as divx can make speed enhancements for it's extreme quality mode then I might be tempted to try it further...but as it stands now 1.0fps in divx as compared to using all advanced features and modes that suck CPU I still get 8-10fps

I think that for DXN Psy mode is developped with JDN test (or VQM test). VQM and SSIM are HVS metric test ...

Psy mode (Masking or Shapping) is visualy very worst than psy off and it's the first time (not with previous version like 5.2.1 for example) than psy mode decrease SSIM in my test ... ???

Everytime i see those "i know it all, you all suck" fanboys i have so much fun reading their delirating posts.
There is just one word to define those kind of persons: LAMER (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lamer).
Now, back in topic: the PSY issue...
I also did some test encodings and it seems PSY just lower the SSIM and OPSNR as sagittaire said. PSY off is visually "more like the original" too...
Is this a bug or wanted behaviour?

Hi guys,

We're looking into the problem. We did originally plan to launch the new codec at this point, but we've decided that to improve the quality of the product it will in fact be released a little later than originally projected. We would rather give you something good to use than hit a date for the sake of hitting a date.

I'll talk to our engineering group next week about an unrestricted build.

IgorC: I was hoping we had dispelled the "DivX is at war with XVID" rumour by this time! It's not the case. We agree that XVID is also a good codec, and in the future you will be more than welcome to use it to produce video for the DivX Media Format. There is no reason to "switch" absolutely between one or the other. Just use the codec that works best for the task in hand and you won't go wrong :)

I can't see a war between DivX and XviD either.

Btw., where have you been at the CeBIT? I was told to meet you there with your pr manager ;) Might have been fun to have a beer together and share a photo of that as proof for a non-war-relationship.

Cut it out, IgorC. If you want to discuss XviD, then it has it's own forum. Let me remind you that this is the DivX Forum and this thread is discussing the Fusion Codec, not the latest XviD. Sometimes I'm amazed at the abuse that the DivX guys allow themselves to take without lashing out. These guys don't have to be here. They have their own forum to discuss problems and field questions. My hat's off to you, DigitAl56K.

I was about to say something about your silly question to Koepi, but either he didn't read it as insulting, or he's allowing you enough rope to hang yourself. My educated guess is that developing codecs isn't easy, and those involved treat each other with respect, something you should start doing, IgorC.

DigitAl56K
23rd March 2005, 22:04
There are two parts:
1. Codec for DivX
2. YV12 pass-through

Actually, I built the installer this time around and I didn't actually register the codec for YV12 passthrough because some forum members weren't happy that we did so last time :)

If you see the codec performing YV12 passthrough, that is because the version you had installed previously was also performing the same function, it just wasn't listed in the compressors list.

IgorC
23rd March 2005, 23:30
YV12 had some issues like flipped images in other programms.
As expected a realease of divx 6 in this month , right?
