View Full Version : Something I don't understand v0.72

Normally I only do movie only encodes but today I am doing my first complete disk encode. The disk is the bonus material disk from the Star Wars Trilogy box set (PAL R4) and I am using CCE OPV mode.

I have ripped the disk in file mode using dvd decrypter and now have 7 vts's as my source

VTS_01_X 8 vobs 7.07Gb
VTS_02_X 2 vobs 0.98Mb
VTS_03_X 2 vobs 20.3Mb
VTS_04_X 2 vobs 126Mb
VTS_05_X 2 vobs 82.5Mb
VTS_06_X 2 vobs 67.5Mb
VTS_07_X 2 vobs 69.1Mb

What I don't understand is that only VTS_01 and VTS_04 are listed in the rebuilder window.

I thought this might be due to the "VTS Minimium Size Re-Encode Threshold" but the FAQ says this defaults to 52Mb and I don't have a custom setting set.

However when I proceed to the prepare stage it processes all VTS except VTS_02 and VTS_03 which is consistant with 52Mb threshold.

Would someone kindly enlighten me?

Make sure you don't count the VTS_XX_0.VOB files in that count. They aren't included in the minimum size calculation.

I guess the better question is "Why would it matter?" -- add all the oddballs together and even if you did reduce them by 50% -- you'd only save 2.5% of the overall disc's space. You wouldn't be able to tell the difference.

As Jdobbs stated it does not matter since those sets are pretty small. However, i did a movie some months ago which had about 12 sets under the min vts size all together that DID make a difference i belive. You can tweak dvd-rb's standard value to include vts sets smaller than 50mb, for example the VTS_03 set that you have there.

under [Options] in the dvd-rb ini file add vts_min_size=10240

[Options]
vts_min_size=10240

this will lower dvd-rb's minimum value for sets to 20mb
if you want another value use this formula 20x2048/4=10240

Guys, thank you for your prompt replies to my query.

However, I am still confused. I read in wmansir's FAQ that the default minimum vts size is ~52Mb, that means VTS 01, 04, 05, 06 and 07 should be listed in the "video title sets" box but only VTS 01 and 04 are. (@jdobbs the VTS_XX_0 were only very small and do not affect the calculated sizes I listed in my original post)

Is there any other reason that they would not be listed, i.e. they don't contain video, sound, subtitles etc.

When I do the prepare step it does process VTS 01, 04, 05, 06 and 07 only.

I just sense there is a discrepancy between what is displayed and what rebuilder does.
