I only recently tried nero's AVC codecs, and now I wish I had tried it well before (before I converted the last 30-some PVR'ed videos for the kids over the holidays at least). It looks better than XviD imho. But the thing that really surprised me the most is, the deinterlacing is really good. It looks better than TomsMoComp (at least on the material I've tried it into). I still have to try x264, but otherwise this may be what I'm going to stick to from now on.
The only real issue I've had with it is undersizing. Every encode that should have turned 700MB ends up being 600 instead consistently. Using custom "fit to 800MB" makes 700MB encodes. No big deal, just gotta add 100MB to target size.
I'll be trying different kind of source material soon, and perhaps trying x264, especially now that GK supports it. What's everyone's thoughts on nero's deinterlacer anyways?
