Hello!
Is it possible to have xvid 1.0.3 and xvid 1.1 beta1 installed concurrently and have seperate selections in the codec list?
If yes, tell me how to do it please!
Kindly, Hironimo

To have both listed, they would both need different fourCC's. I would have to check, but I think that they use the same registry keys, so setting something in one would effect the other.
That said Syskin suggested two VDub installs and that you place the XviD dll's in one, the other will use whatever version is installed.
That said with XviD being opensource, you could change it so that it used a different registry key for settings and linked to something other than xvidcore.dll, then I think you could easily install two versions. Just make the vidc entry say vidc.XVI2 or something.

I think thats too much work for the convenience and it would not be compatible to others, I guess.
Another question to you, celtic_druid:
You do xvid compiles. It is said yours are faster then koepi's.
Did you check on that? Do you have any comparisons?
Also I saw there is a compile for Pentium 4 (but only the main file, no installer) - would this be faster then the intel 8.1 compile when run on a P4?
If so, can you make the compile into an installer and post the url here?
I'm talking about both 1.0.3 and 1.1 bet1, btw.
Thanx in advance,
Hironimo

celtic druids compiles are faster for a p4 due to the usage of ICL8 by some amazing 0.01 percent, while my builds are faster on AMDs by 0.01 percent by the usage of ICL7.
We're talking about a few seconds on a multiple hours encode, so the speed difference shouldn't matter.

The P4 compile is a gcc compile. As for speeds, you would have to test. But as Koepi said I wouldn't expect huge speed differences.
If other people are interested, I could probably knock up a 1.1 build that won't overwrite a previous build. Although I guess it would make more sense to have a 1.0.x build as the secondary one so that 1.1's decoder gets used.

celtic_druid:
sorry, i thought you used ICL. GCC is for now always slower than ICL (even the old ICL7). But still we're talking about peanuts here.
I don't think it's a good idea to change the registry key(-location) of a 1.1 build, you'll be amazed how many complaints that will raise - and even worse, for the "usual build maintainers" it will cause more trouble which they can't do anything about :-/
Just IMO, you're of course free to do whatever you like.

For 1.1.0beta1 I did gcc compiles (some people like them), a ICL7 compile and a ICL8.1 compile.
I would only do it if people wanted it. If you ask for something then you can hardly complain when you get it. Although I guess a lot of people do. Everyone else can just use regular builds with the regular registry key.

If you made such a custom build, would that in any way affect compatibility of the resulting files when others play it?
If not, i'd be interested.
I like the speed improvement in 1.1 beta but don't trust it completely yet on stability and error-free video.
What are your observations on stability?

The output would be the same.
