View Full Version : mp4UI compliant mp4 files?

I've encoded avi files with DivX/XviD video and no audio. When I import the avi into mp4UI and export it to the mp4 container, it doesn't work in Quicktime and MPC. But it works great in VLC. Am I doing something wrong?

Ops, sorry for posting in the wrong forum. Forgot to change to the container forum.

quicktime only supports mpeg-4 simple profile streams (this means no b-frames, no qpel, no gmc, no mpeg/custom quants and of course no avc...)
also it doesnt support mp3/mp2 audio in .mp4, but only aac

about media player classic: what splitter/parser do you use? 3ivx, nero, moonlight...
what doesnt work exactly, what error message do you get?

what doesnt work exactly, what error message do you get? I know that about Quicktime, and I din't use b-frames/gmc/qpel/mpeg or anything else that isn't allowed. I use the nero splitter and the latest ffdshow build to decode the MPEG-4 files. I don't use mp3 audio or anything else except for aac. But when testing, I haven't added audio. In quicktime, all that happens is that the file opens, and after that not much more happens, I can't play it because the entire player isn't showing, just the movie info window. After that, I have to shut down QT through task manager. In VLC it works great. In Platform4Player, it works, but no picture is showing, just black. I just tried it with MPC and it worked great too this time. I then tried it with the QuickTime renderer, and it just didn't play. The player did not freeze or anything, just didn't play, even though it said Playing in the statusfield.

It sounds as though you are seeing QuickTime players, "white screen of death" ;)

This is a known issue when muxing Mpeg4/SP and AAC-LC streams with mp4UI, I'm afraid.

Bond can't replicate the problem because he has 3ivx installed :)

Cheers

Cheers No, that's not the issue here. It just isn't showing anything at all. I'll upload the file now.

Here's the avi. Well there's your problem... It's an .AVI

QuickTime player does not support Mpeg4 video in the .AVI container. Only in .MOV and .MP4 containers!

Cheers NO! bond wanted me to upload the avi before importing it to mp4UI. I'm trying to upload the avi and mp4 here, both in zip files, but they're apparently too large or something.

Okay Elias,

I've tested both your files. Both the "video only" Mpeg4 .AVI and the Mpeg4 .MP4, files play fine using Nero's ShowTime player.

However, I can confirm that your Mpeg4 .MP4 file is "completely" b0rked in QuickTime

Happily, I was able to use mp4UI to create a working Mpeg4 .MP4 file but, as mentioned previously... it too is "slightly" b0rked.

http://img191.exs.cx/img191/7933/snap11cq.gif

But... "slightly" is better than "completely" :D

I do hope Markus (mp4UI's creator) will fix this annoying issue!

nice video, elias :D

as mp4ui is based on mpeg4ips mp4creator i tried muxing with latest mp4creator:
1) when muxing from .avi to .mp4 directly in mp4creator the files work fine in qt
2) when extracting the video to raw with avi2raw and than importing it with mp4creator, the resulting file plays fine in qt too

so mp4ui needs to be updated to latest mpeg4ip sources :)

This is why I had to use 3ivx and GraphEdit to generate all my Mpeg4/AAC .MP4 streaming encodes....

But I've since found that although Windows PC's like Mpeg4/AAC .MP4 muxes generated using 3ivx/GraphEdit, MAC's don't!

Like I said before... I hope Markus can fix it :)

I guess so, because mp4UI is a great tool and really a nice alternative to Nero Digital. So it's a shame to see this problem, really. I hope that he updates it. By the way, I used Simple L0 profile in XviD; no b-frames or anything like that, so theoretically, it should work just fine with mp4UI.

Just for the record, this isn't an XviD bug, I get the same issue with DivX4/5/3ivX/latest ffdshow/any compliant MPEG-4 codec.

1. Go to RUN, type cmd.
2. drag the mp4creator60.exe(if you are using mpeg4iptools) to the command prompt window.
3. then press enter, it sholud print out an information about the switch and help info.:)
Goodluck
Bye;)
