View Full Version : Removing "particular" noise

I'm looking for a way to remove the "big noise" that sometimes appears in small/restricted red (or green) areas of the image in old anime dvd, maybe "created" when deinterlacing...

Well... it's a big hard to explain what I mean, but maybe someone knows what I'm taking about and knows how to deal with it... it would be great.

I tried whith denoisers, but at normal tresholds they don't work and at higher ones they create artifacts

Sorry, but I don't know if there's a specific name for this kind of noise, and if there is I don't know how it's called...
Otherwise I would have used the search function of the forum :o

Thanks.

That is your standard NTSC comb interference. Look at Guavacomb or DeDot (I prefer this one to Guava). They can smooth these out in stationary scenes and make them less noticable.

Thx Ted!
I'm testing both of them, but the only only one that works good seems to be dedot (and guavacomb give some bad side effects when it comes to deinterlacing: I gues this depends on the inverse field order  ).

In my tests dedot works good on removing the "simple" dot crawls, even though it does not fully remove this kind of "strong noise" or "strong dot crawl".

I guess there's no way to fix it...
