View Full Version : AutoGK Encoding Problems

Hi, everyone. I've been sucessfully riping DVD movies for several months using DVDDecrypt 3.5.2.0 and Auto Gordian Knot 1.60. Recently however I have unexpectedly hit a brick wall. DVDDecrypt runs fine. AutoGK however, runs for a while and encodes only a portion of the VOB files to DivX/XVid. I'm attaching a sample AGK Log file. I appreciate any help.

Thank you,
James S.

forgot the log file :)

also, can you send the dvddecryptor stream information txt file as well? it looks something like this after it's done copying the dvd in IFO mode:

0x80 - Audio - AC3 / 2ch / 48kHz / DRC / English / LBA: 33 / PTS: 00:00:00.233 / Delay: -66ms
0xE0 - Video - MPEG-2 / 720x480 (NTSC) / 4:3 / LBA: 1 / PTS: 00:00:00.300 / Delay: 0ms

does the encoded movie match what dvd decrptor ripped in the stream information file?

i would also recommend upgrading to the latest beta version, 1.88.

Hi, musicnyman. Thank you for your quick reply.

Maybe you could help me with a small issue. I have selected the log file using th Browse button under "Attach File" but for some reason it fails to attach the file. I tried testing this in the test forum with no results. Is there something simple I am missing?

Where can I find the "dvddecryptor stream information" log file? Is there a setting in DVDDecrypt that enables this log file?

I'll check if "the encoded movie match what dvd decrptor ripped in the stream information file" once I can enable the log file and I'll post it

I just downloaded AutoGK v1.88 beta and will try it

Cheers,
James

Attachments must be approved by a moderator before they will appear. I've done so, so your attachment is now present. And it looks like for that log, it completed the 2nd pass, and was finished with video.

You'll find a "streams information" text file in the same folder your .vob and .ifo file are, assuming you used DVD Decrypter in IFO mode.

Thanks jggimi.

I'm attaching a VTS_01 - Stream Information.txt log file to this post

I've validated the attachment, and noticed that the second pass in the log it says:[1/20/2005 12:41:35 AM] Speed was: 138.78 fps. That's a little TOO fast. Something is going wrong, all right, and my thought is you might try removing and reinstalling XviD, since there have been troubles caused by installing XviD on top of an already installed XviD.

i agree. uninstalling and re-installing xvid has fixed many problems for me as well including over/under-sizing issues.

also make sure all xvid*.dll files are gone as well before re-installing xvid, just to be sure after you uninstall xvid.

I have unistalled the XViD codec from my system. Which version would you recommend that I install (the old one I had, new one, or beta)?

I would use the version packaged with AutoGK 1.60, which if I'm not mistaken, was XviD 1.0.2. You will avoid any interopability issues that way.

I can't seem to find XVid 1.0.2. I did find XviD-1.0.3-20122004.exe however which http://www.koepi.org/xvid.shtml says is "the latest stable binary". Also I have upgraded to AutoGK1.88b. Should I still install 1.0.2?

I found 1.02. Which is better, 1.0.2 or 1.0.3?

...Also I have upgraded to AutoGK1.88b...

Use the release packaged with AutoGK. The less variables, the better.

Shoud I reinstall all of AutoGK , or just the XViD codec? If it is just the XViD codec, how do I extract the XViD istallation from AutoGK?

Thanks,
James

you can download xvid 1.03 here:

http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Koepi_XviD.htm

or just re-install autogk since it comes with 1.0.3, at least i know 1.88b does.

but i agree, use the one that comes with autogk if you're going to re-install anyway. make sure you uninstall all xvid versions first before re-installing autogk.

I de-installed AutoGK and the XViD codec. I am going to re-install Auto GK 1.88b and then try to rip again.

Hi again. As was suggested: I de-installed AutoGK and the XViD codec. Then I installed AutoGordianKnot.1.60.Setup.exe and the update AutoGordianKnot.1.88.beta.Update.exe

Again, I have endeed up with a bad rip..

To me it looks like codec/vdubmod crashes during second pass. I suspect hardware fault (especially if it crashes at random points).

P.S. please don't create separate threads for the same problem.

It does crash at random points. I'm not sure what I can do about this though.. My computer seerms to run fine otherwise, rarely crashes..

Sorry, I just wanted to start fresh and call attention to my post..

james, do you know how to encode an xvid/divx file outside of autogk in virtualdub? if possible, try encoding the video using the avs scripts set up by autogk after it crashes, since autogk has done most of the dirty work for you. you just have to encode the video. you can also use the first pass file that autogk created in the tmp directory.

if not, i would look at one of the virtualdub guides on how to do this manually and maybe you can check to see why virtualdub is crashing on you. hopefully it'll give you an error message that you can't normally see.

I'm not sure how "to encode an xvid/divx file outside of autogk in virtualdub". Do you know here I can find a good guide on how to do this?

doom9 guides of course :)

http://www.doom9.org/xvid-vdub-11.htm

there are a couple other ones you can look at, but this is a good one. it can apply to divx as well, just change video compression to divx instead of xvid.

but make sure you use virtualdubmod and not plain virtualdub, since virutaldub itself can't open avs files. autogk uses virtualdubmod.

Usually, crashes at random points during video encoding points directly to hardware instability. Video encoding stresses CPUs like no other PC application, and produces dramatic amounts of heat. Your PC can run find with all sorts of applications, but have problems encoding.

If you're overclocking, stop.

For a guide to stress testing your PC to confirm if hardware is a culprit, click on this thread (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=54130).

I've run SpeedFan and my CPU temperture peaks out at about 73 degrees.
I think I've found my problem.
