Is there a step by step guide out there for converting HDTV to Xvid? It seems like there are a lot of methods, but I cant see to find a step by step solution. Care to point me in the direction of one? Thanks!

only that i use DGIndex and DGDecode instead of DVD2AVIT3 and mpeg2dec3.dll
DGIndex and DGDecode are newer versions

everything is going great so far except when I get to the part that say open interleaving dialog (Ctrl-I or RMB/interleaveing). I dont see that any where on Vdub and when i hit Ctrl-I nothing happens.

menu Streams
Stream List
select the stream
right click on the stream - interleaving and set that
hope to be useful

Thanks I found it! Only problem is that everytime I try an encode I get shuttering video and WAY out of sycn audio. I read the guide carefully and remembered to put the -554 in after looking at my AC3 file. Am I doing something wrong? After I select Xvid MPEG-4 Codec and press configure, what sould I do to that Audio section on both passes? Leave that be? Or do I enter in my AC3 info there as well.

u would add the audio only on the second pass or later after the 2nd pass is finished and u have the Xvid video ready
which was the original HDTV stream ? 1080i 720i or 720p ?
1920x1080i 29.97fps 1280x720i 29.97fps or 1280x720p 60fps ?
for now i have some problem with the 720p 60fps, the rest works great
let me know

1920x1080i 29.97fps is what Im trying. But I still dont get when to add the audio. In the second pass it give the option while I set up the encode with Vdub, but the guide says to use the stream list. Im just confused I think

You should just encode the video first and deal with the audio afterwards.
What I usually do is encode the video (2 passes or more). Once that is done, I load the video in VirtualDub (modded to support AC-3 streams), then load the AC-3 stream and save the file as a new AVI (muxed).
From my past experiences, trying to do video and audio at the same time usually causes a lot of issues.
Good luck and let us know of your progress. =)

that is pretty much my findings also. also being encoding the audio at the same time... with a source such as these .ts streams will eat your processor into the 100% usage zone and keep it pegged no matter what your computer is.
i use the dvd2avi2 method and usually always trim as much as i can from the beginning and from the end of the video, then save project.
i have found by doing it this way i have not run into any audio sync problem which i have run into before with these streams. then after the video "only" has been encoded, i later take the ac3/sound file and merge it to the video using NanDub.
[imo] the trimming is important to having the audio reamin sync'd and its easier on your processor and encode time to add the audio last.
