My DVR-107D seems to have gone bad after my first burn attempt at 8x. Here are the details:
Upgraded firmware to latest version 1.21 from Pioneer. Bought new Linkyo 8x DVD-R inkjet printables and tried burning at 8x using Nero 6. I got a power calibration error on the 1st disc. Tried another and the drive would not even recognize there was a disc loaded. I then upgraded Nero to the latest release (6.3) and tried again. Would not recognize a disc. Then uninstalled the drivers for the drive and re-installed them. Same result. Found some older 4x media and burned just fine at 4x on those. Then on a whim tried 8x again on the Linkyos and it worked - sort of. Burn time was way long (about 45 minutes) and the write buffer indicator on Nero kept jumping between 100% and 40% (it normally stays close to 100% throughout a burn). Tried ripping a movie using DVD Shrink and the rip was also very slow - over 1 hour when normally about 20 minutes. I then ran the NERO CD/DVD check program on the 8x burned disc that took so long and it came back with max speed of 1.2x.
Questions: Is it bad media? It did work with the older 4x disc so maybe its the media. Is it the drive? Since ripping is now much longer than it used to be it appears the drive itself is not working right.
Any suggestions or thoughts?
Thanks,
HDD
