View Full Version : What causes results to have shadow images?

I have read the guide and followed all the settings for encoding xvid with virtualdubmod and all of my video came out fine quality and everything. Either it's from cartoon or from real movies. Until I tried to backup my Friends season so I could fit it all in one DVD instead of 4. But once the encoding was finished; the quality was fine but the show itself was laggy and everytime the character moves they left like a shadow image of their movements. What should I do to get rid of this?

screenshot? sample clip?

it might be a decoder issue, or perhaps friends was decoding wrong on encode.

I guess you use a btrate around 1Mbit...!? - This is not much for 640x### or even 720x###, so (strong) filtering may be well probable. Thus look for temporal filters merging one frames with the previous and next frame - such filters (specially when wrong configured;)) may cause such shadow images.

Those are interlacing artefacts. Check out doom9's guide about IVTC, search for "decomb" on the forum, search for deinterlace in general.

EDIT: if that is from a PAL dvd there might be a good chance that you're screwed and that the dvds already contain improperly IVTCed material. The PAL star trek next generation dvds are like that for example, there's nothing you can do about it then.

It's a US NTSC DVD. Thanks for the Help I'll check it out ^^
