Maximum Vector range in AVC MAx def

Is there any reason to use the Maximum Vector Range values that are available after selecting Maximum Definition profile for relatively low bitrates (1-1,5 Mbps)?

Found this info:

Max MV range : maximum motion vector range. On standard action movies at standard resolutions (like 640x272), ±128 is a good value. Higher values may impact performance of some decoders.

What is your experience?

I set everything to the max to keep the best possible quality.
Decoders? I use a xbox to play back my movies... AVC is still not completely supported (mplayer) but i bet it will be before Nerodigital certified standalones will be commercialized.

Thankx, I will try to do a test encode with max vector range values for standard AVC and max vector range values for Max def. to see the impact on the CPU load during decoding.

OK, i did a short test: 3 clips with the three available Max Vector range values, visually, I could not see a difference.
the encode with the highest value of 512... went about 20 % slower than the remaining two encodes. Also considering CPU load when decoding I did not notice any great differences.

be carreful:

between 128 or 512 for vector range : visually, you could not perhabs see a difference.
between best or extra quality : visually, you could not perhabs see a difference.
between weighted prediction off or weighted prediction on : visually, you could not perhabs see a difference.
between halfpel or quarterpel : visually, you could not perhabs see a difference.
between cavlc or cabac : visually, you could not perhabs see a difference.
between 1 ref frame or 5 ref frame : visually, you could not perhabs see a difference.

but the visual difference between 128 MVR, best, wpred off, cavlc ... and 512 MVR, extra, wpred on, cabac ... will be very important.

Apart from trying the available Max vector range values, all other settings were the same.
That is All defaults except for macroblocks off, adaptive off, deblock. strength 0 and psychovis low.

I was just trying to see the performance impact of the Max Vector range settings.

one more thing, these are the settings (apart from max vector range) I normally use, so the conclusion for me regarding Max vector range will be that I will use the middle Max vector range value, which for me seems the best compromise.
