nero express 6 burns @max speed ALWAYS!

using nero express 6( oem suite )when i put the disc in my dvd writer, the speed setting area always sets to the MAX speed of the media, and is greyed out so i can't adjust it!

every other aspect of nero is ok. since the last time i seen this working right i installed xp sp2, ran ad-aware by lavasoft to remove spyware. NO OTHER PROBLEMS seen.

what gives? xp sp2 incompatibility? i have tried to contact nero tech support but i have yet to hear back from them and it has been a week already.

if you wanna call them , they want a credit card# and $1.29/min---I THINK NOT! they have their nerve to charge for tech support after we buy their programs.

any help greatly appreciated.

There have been some issues with older nero 6 versions and sp2. (don't know what those were)

The first thing to try with nero problems is downloading the latest version and upgrading your version. Have you tried that already?

OEM versions do usually have some compatibility issues.

Updating Nero is not hard, and it's free. It's upgrading to a completely new version number (like from 5 to 6) that costs.

i mean, they're the software that comes with the burner, right? No, they are not. The price is included in the price of the recorder bundle, so you do pay for it though generally speaking much less than for the full version.

Mostly they are a limited version of a program that the OEM manufacturer has bought cheaply to re-distribute with the burner. The licence limits the use to the bundled hardware only. It is not free, you are not allowed to re-distribute or sell it or to use it with other hardware. How legal that last bit is I don't know. Also, the support is often transferred to the oem manufacturer. For example, if you buy a NAS server with windows server storage edition on it, the windows is supported by the NAS maker, not microsoft.

In the case of nero however, the regular updates from the ahead website do work with the oem version.
