so far am making great copies using dvd shrink (v3.2) , and dvd encoder and nero oem version (most current version jan 2005).
when dvd shrink files are left on my computer and i try to burn a second dvd i have difficulty using nero only.
message says the .bup, or .vob., or .ifo files are not compatible and i must upgrade nero to burn files.
but my dvd shrink is already using the oem nero, at lease i have that item checked.
please advise where i can find out how to use nero to simply burn files left on my computer.
yet, if i use dvd shrink with the files (rather than using dvd ) all goes well, but the time is longer as files have to be recoded.
if anything, please let me know what am i not doing correctly?
thanks in advance,
newby

decided to learn more about ripping and burning,
just burned a copy of a dvd.
tried to burn a new copy from the copy made by dvd shrink and nero 6.6.05.
thus have a shrunk dvd in effect, so i set on 'no compression'.
several times,
53% into encoding of dvd shrink got error message from dvd shrink:
"data error cycle redundancy check"
is my recently burned disk bad (the disk i am trying to burn from)?
i also tried making an iso file from same copy using dvd derypter.
about 61% into encoding with dvd decrypter (into process) data error messages also. aborted process after several attempts.
could i have burned a bad disk?
how can i test disk
(so as to make copies)
as it appears to play well enough in dvd player?
thanks in advance,
robert

I'm confused, rj. What are you trying to accomplish, exactly? It doesn't quite seem to meet our interpretation of Fair Use, as described in www.doom9.org/disclaimer.htm. Obviously, its open to interpretation, but making multiple copies isn't typically needed in order to make a backup.

as i mentioned in my opening statement,
i am still learning about the various aspects of the different copying softwares.
was not intentionally doing anything unscrupulous.
i was merely trying to learn how to make multiple backup,
okay, not necessarily a great thing to do in itself,
but was nonetheless trying as i read that copied/ burned
dvd's have a shelf life significantly shorter than originally thought.
(maybe even less than two years.)
extra backups thereby may be required.
was only testing how to accomplish this if possible.
re-backing up from my original is no problem,
except i though it would take less time to try
and back up an already compressed disc.
hope i did not offend parameters of forum.
sorry,
robert
