View Full Version : CCE versions

Hey,
I'm a donator, so I'm using 0.72 (meaning I can use any version), but which version of CCE is best? I've seen high talk of 2.50 over later versions for speed but is it as good quality wise?
I've been trying 2.70.01.03 trial however that never actually made any m2v files. It would make a quick vaf and that's it :(
How do I set up these newer versions for use with RB?
Thanks
Morien
Edit:
I've installed 2.70.01.05 trial and in the encode phase it goes through the segments like nobodies business. CCE loads and then straight away closes and it does this over and over again. The exe is linked to in CCE SP (NEW) and I've selected CCE SP Trial under the Options>CCE tab. Any ideas?

I have the exact same problem. I have ver DVD-RB 0.72 and have tried reinstalling Cinema Craft a couple of times but still same problem.

This is strange. I am also using cce sp 2.70 trial with .72 of dvd rb and its working flawlessly. Did you make sure that in your Rebuilder.ecl file that the header at the top is something like CCE SP Trial version or something like that?

Yes I just checked it and it does have the trial version in the ecl file, I checked the .avs files with media player and they all worked perfectly, I tried deleteing the rebuilder.ini file and re-entering all the settings.:
; CCE SP Trial Version -- Encoder Control List
; Created by DVD Rebuilder

I tried letting RB start encoding, and than stopped it so that an item.ecl file would be created. I then manually opened the item.ecl file and clicked encode:
CCE SP came up with this:
cce_encoding_init() failed: unknown error
after clicking ok it came up with another error saying:
vinfo_open() failed: ***Could not open the file <F:\DVDSDONE\MYSTIC\D2VAVS\V01000200002002.vaf>*** The system cannot find the file specified.
[Windows error code: 0x2 2]
------------------------------------------------------------------
This error seems weird because why would CCE try to open its VAF file before even trying to create it?

It could be you're using one of the hacked versions that doesn't say "Trial" in the header for your initial problem. The second one I have no idea. Obviously the .VAF file couldn't be opened -- but that shouldn't be needed until the second pass.

Nope. I'm using a legitamet uncracked trial version.
Edit:
I'm going to try again, then I'll upload all the files it produces so you can look at one you want, and I'll also make a video showing what it does in the encode phase.

I'm also using a legit trial version I DL off of Cinema Crafts Site. and it does say trial all over it. It's version 2.70.01.05 Version 2.50 worked fine on my computer before and still does. I just can't seem to get 2.70 to work.

Ok, an archive with the D2AVS folder and the capture are available at http://rapidshare.de/files-en/402159/dvdrbcce.rar.html (Don't right click, you have to go in and it will count down then you can download it. It's only 629KB (Rar) so it's not too big.
The video is choppy as hell as it made my meek system run choppy as hell. The benefit of that though is that you can see exactly what pops up (usually if you blink you'll miss it).
Hope someone can help!
Thanks

I watched your vid Morien and that's exactly the same problem I have. I've set everything on my other computer the same, same versions of all programs envolved and it works just fine, I mapped the drive in the computer that won't work and encoded right out of that folder on the other machine. I can't get it, even the verisons of XP Pro SP2 are the same on both machines, the only big difference is that the other machine is P3 and mine is Athlon Thunderbird.
[edit] I have determined though that it doesn't have anything to do with DVD-RB because CCE won't even encode a plain avi file for me.

Ah crud.
I think we've pinpointed the problem then.
My computer is a Thunderbird too :(
Sigh.
Well then, that's the next best version quality wise after 2.70?

That's strange because I just checked the CCE site and they list as supporting the Enhanced 3Dnow instruction set on the old Athlons but who knows if you look at the fine print it says "* Support depends on CPU core." So maybe the Thunderbird falls in that category too bad.
As far as other versions I believe for old AMDs version 2.50 is the fastest and 2.6* has a slight improvement on quality as well as the ability to use custom matrixes. Myself I prefer 2.5 for its speed and don't see any quality difference between both versions myself.

Oh well :(

just out of personal interest could you run this little program to id your processor:
SysID site (http://home20.inet.tele.dk/sysid/)
Sysid download (http://home20.inet.tele.dk/sysid/sysid.zip)
and could you post the results (or take a screen shot).
especially the clock multiplier, FSB clock, CPU Clock, family model stepping information. I'm interested in tracking this problem down a little more on the AMD processor forums. thanx :)

Try this:

It seems SSE2 instructions are enabled by default...

Sir Didymus,
thanks, but it didn't work :( It's greyed out for me since my cpu doesn't support sse1 or 2 :(
Thanks for the reply

Mhhh.
Bad news to me too...
The oldest of the three PC I am using (mostly during the w/ends) is an Athlon 2000+, TBIRD core...
Good opportunity to renew the hardware...
Cheers,

Well according to Cinemacraft's site a standard Athlon should be supported for CCE SP.
http://www.cinemacraft.com/eng/cpu.html
All my machines are runnning Athlon XP processors -- so I have no way of testing it.

Correction to the last post. I just remembered that one of my computers actually was running a Thunderbird and gave it a try. You are absolutely right -- that computer gets an init() error followed by the "couldn't find VAF" error.
Sounds like someone at Cinemacraft got a little carried away with this build.

Thanks Jdobbs for confirming it.
I checked The Cinema Craft Site right away after I realized it might be the processor but as you say they do list the old Athlon Classics as working, but no dice. They also list some Durons as working so when I have some free time I'll stick my old Duron back in my computer and see if it works out of curiosity. Guess I'll have to stick with 2.5 for now.

Nothing wrong with good ole' 2.50  -- it's still my favorite and works faster on Athlons. It's reliable too.

Yea I would probably use 2.50 as well just to squeak out all possible speed. But i like being able to use custom quanti mats.

There's a hack that allows you to change matrix in 2.50...
pascoe_r_26

Where could I find this hack? Tried searching google and my other sources and didn't come up with anything. Being able to use marices in 2.5, especially on low bit extras would be pretty sweet.

which version of CCE is best?
Nobody can answer that. I personally prefer to use 2.50 over any later versions due to getting higher encoding speeds and i like the gui :).
Until there is a genuine reason for me to use a higher version i will continue to stay with something i am happy with (2.50.01.00).

@Chaddy
The biggest reason for using a higer version is:
1. Custom quanti matrices (but it seems you can patch this so these are available even in 2.50
2. I believe starting at like 2.67 or 2.66 or something CCE started handling Interlaced material much better. So any tv series, or made for tv movies could theoretically look a little better with a newer version.
EDIT: However it is generally recognized that Procoder does a better job with interlaced sources than any version of CCE.

It can be found... it allows you to change the matrices and also patch v2.50 to look for .AVS files when it opens. The reason I don't want to have any discussion on it (so lets stop here) is that it unfortunately also includes a crack -- and I don't ever want to give the impression I condone software piracy.

Newer versions do have an advantage in the fact that they can perform reverse pulldown for you.

Well, thanks for all your replies.
I've tried 2.70 on my brother's machine (Athlon XP 3200+) and it does indeed work. So oh well.
Thanks
